That's amazing that Concerned Ape is still releasing content for a beloved game, released in 2016. Regular big box publishers would have put new content behind many annual "new" versions by now....

cough Bethesda cough I do agree with that most of the time the big name publishers will do this if they smell that they can make money from an IP or game that has been out for years now. I mean,...

I do agree with that most of the time the big name publishers will do this if they smell that they can make money from an IP or game that has been out for years now. I mean, look at Skyrim and it's numerous editions and that's a 13 year old game that Bethesda keeps hammering out to the point that is what they can only make now, looking at you Starfield.
And this why I like Concern, he doesn't lock shit behind dlcs or new editions of the game, he just fixes the updates as that, updates to the game.
Honestly, at this point, I kind of wish he did release them as DLC. I've put 300+ hours into a game that cost me $15, Eric honestly deserves more than he's gotten so far. I mean, he built...

I mean, he built something great exactly as he wanted it, and then got lucky that it attracted the right attention and exceeded sales and fame beyond what anyone could have imagine for an indie farming game. Clearly, at this point, he's doing it for the love of what he does, and given he's gone far and above what anyone should expect for maintenence from any developer, barring a live support payment formula.
If any DLC is acceptable to a person, I think releasing this update at DLC should be.
I for one have supported him by buying stardew on multiple platforms (switch, PC, iOS) and buying merch (official guide book). They have also gotten lots of use and there’s still more to go.

Difference between doing something for passion and doing something for profit. He clearly cares about the game and its community and wants to treat them right. He’s shown time and time again that he doesn’t view the fans of his game as just a profit source to be milked. I don’t know if I will enjoy his new game when it comes out (Haunted Chocolatier) but he’s earned my trust and will probably buy it anyway because of his genuine caring for his community and the passion he puts into his game.
I don't think it's that bad outside CoD and EA sports games. Ubisoft's Rainbow Six Siege was released in 2015 and still gets new content, mostly for free, living on newcomers. Dance games need to...

Ubisoft's Rainbow Six Siege was released in 2015 and still gets new content, mostly for free, living on newcomers. Dance games need to cover song licensing costs and there's no real way around that.
Meanwhile, thousands of indies never got an update after the first year. Which is fine—that's the only way to make time for new things.
I love a good auteur creator story and to see Concerned Ape making bank and riding this out fills my heart. Both my wife and I are looking forward to the next title
