I had no idea this was being made until recently so that was a fun surprise. I just love Dragon Quest in general but this one is really special to me.

Some of those characters definitely look recognizable too. I'm envious of those who get to experience a nostalgia trip with a high quality remake (which sadly doesn't apply to all of Square Enix's remakes).
Any parts of the game in particular that stand out fondly in your memory?
I'm not OP, but I come from a similar place regarding this remake. The ability to recruit a party of adventurers of your choice, grow those characters in their classes, and eventually re-class...

The ability to recruit a party of adventurers of your choice, grow those characters in their classes, and eventually re-class them later and create some truly wild builds is the thing that keeps me returning to DQ3 all these years later.
I played it originally on the NES and I've replayed it every time it's gotten a port to a new system. I generally return to the Fan Translation of the SNES port every other year or so just because I love the story, the art, the mechanics, and just about everything they're putting down there. The party creation options and the job system are really what makes it a joy to play over and over again. Many games have done jobs, DQ3 set the mold and it's rarely been matched since.
That choice of art style reminds me of Star Ocean: The Second Story moreso than Octopath Traveler. I don't think I've actually played the original Dragon Quest 3. How does it hold up? Aside from...
Square Enix and Artdink played around with the HD-2D in Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake. Unlike Octopath Traveller, only the central characters are rendered in high-definition 2D sprites. The world around them is rendered in vivid 3D. At first blush, it's not quite as impressive as the diorama-like vistas from Octopath Traveler, and yet, once you see the Hero/ine and their party arrive at Romaria for the first time or the sun-dappled village of Norvik, you'll be sold. The world is bright and colorful, saturated with vibrant hues and details to enjoy everywhere. The grass is lush, the skies are endless, and the open plains of the battle screen are peppered with tiny gusts of wind and the shadows of clouds overhead.

I don't think I've actually played the original Dragon Quest 3. How does it hold up? Aside from this remake I guess most players would jump straight to the newest entries instead.
It's not bad, but I'm not much of a JRPG aficionado. The story is pretty light touch and you're mostly given hints about where to go next, then you kind of wander the world from there. The GBC...

I played maybe 10ish hours over the summer, I think. Been meaning to go back, but I can't really recall what I was doing and I have the sense that the game has pretty much shown me all it's got; with the background level the story is, I don't much feel compelled to go back.
For reference, I completed Dragon Quest 4 ages ago when it rereleased on DS. I remember enjoying it a lot, but not much else about it and over the past 5+ years I've put about 45 hours into Dragon Quest 8. I think I actually like it a lot more, as it actually has characters, more of a story, the world is more interesting and one of the more important aspects to me: no random battles. You can actually see the mobs in the world, so you can actively avoid or engage, which is huge to me; I loathe random battles.

If you play it now for the first time, I can see a person not being impressed by the systems because of how similarly modern DQ games play, but this is the game that started so much of how it and much of the jRPG genre works.
I just got my copy delivered for the PS5, super excited to play it. Within the last two weeks I also received two other long anticipated jRPGs though, so it will have to wait for me to play it sadly.

I assume you're talking about Final Fantasy. The pixel remakes were fine, but I still prefer playing FF4&6 on the SNES version through emulation.
