The best description I ever heard of TF2 was when some called it, “a military-themed hat simulator”. Does this announcement basically mean we’re getting vanilla TF2, with no more hats?

Team Fortress 2 Classic is a mod for Team Fortress 2 that re-imagines the early post-launch era — circa 2008 to 2009 — of the original game. Starting from there, we've added quality-of-life features, remade and reworked scrapped content, and built onto it with full-size updates in homage to TF2's timeless style and tone.
TF2 without all the steam workshop noise? Sign me up! At first I assumed this was possible due to the source code release, but it looks like they've been working on it for far longer. Hopefully...

No, TF2 classic is more deathmatchy apparently. For instance the sniper can equip a revolver rifle and scout can equip a nailgun as primary. TF2C is pretty clearly not TF2. I wish TF2 were...

I wish TF2 were reimagined without sidegrades, personally - no opportunity cost except for which class to choose.
Yeah I used to play the hell out of TF2 before they added in new weapons and such, and I really do think it was a lot better then. It really was weird the direction the game took in my opinion and...

It really was weird the direction the game took in my opinion and no one really ever talks about it, everyone just accepts it as "hat simulator game" when it used to be fantastic FPS
I'm with you on that. I remember when hats and alternative equipment first dropped and it seemed exciting, but after time away from the game and then trying to return and play again, it was just...

Aside from FFXIV, I mostly play games on PS5 and Switch now. I have no interest in building a computer just for gaming, and I haven't used Windows since 2008 or so.
According to this it's because Apple dropped support for 32-bit applications (and for the record, TF2 only updated to 64-bit less than 12 months ago). They didn't mention that Apple also...
According to this it's because Apple dropped support for 32-bit applications (and for the record, TF2 only updated to 64-bit less than 12 months ago). They didn't mention that Apple also deprecated OpenGL applications, which in practice means they deprecated every game older than Metal and, realistically, every game on Steam.
In that context, it's unfair to say that "Valve dropped support"; it was clearly Apple dropping support and Valve not being willing to fight Apple on Apple's home turf.

Can't wait for it to be released :)
