I think it’s important to note that this is not a replacement for the lithium in a lithium-ion battery, but for the graphite.

Instead of a lithium-graphite or lithium-nickel mix, it would be a lithium-silicon mix.

We’re still going to be dependent on lithium mined from abroad and reclaimed from recycled tech, but from a cost perspective I can think of few things cheaper than silicon for industrial production.

Mine definitely has to be the Justice League Unlimited episode where Superman takes the Martian Manhunter (MM) to his parents house. All because he doesn’t understand why Christmas is so important.

The initial scene where MM meets the Kents is especially hilarious when they tell him they’re used to having aliens around. His look of bewilderment says it all.

There’s something to be said about controlling the worldwide distribution rights for anime. It’s a small chunk, financially, but I would say that it might pitch well above its right in a cultural sense. I need to dig into this to see if there’s any research to back up this feeling, or if it’s simply my view from being enmeshed in it for so long.

Former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger was ordered to pay $100 million after being found liable for

bad stuff the murder of Botham Jean in a civil trial. She mistakenly entered his apartment, thinking it was her own. He was sitting on his couch watching TV, eating vanilla cream when she surprised him by opening the door, then shot him twice and killed him.

She’s currently serving her criminal sentence and won’t be freed anytime soon.

How does someone who was likely worth little to nothing actually pay this kind of penalty? A company would likely have insurance that pays out when sued. Does anyone understand how it would work for an individual?

Is it merely symbolic? The quote from the family makes it seem like they think they’ll see some money from this.

Edit: no one was wearing ice cream…thanks @Khalos

The memories of watching the entire series burned onto a single DVD. Some friends of mine managed to wrangle the whole series into a single disc by cutting all OPs and EDs, and dropping the quality. Though I only got through it once myself at the time, I still have that disc somewhere in my collection.

By this point, it’s likely to have suffered some bitrot, but the memory remains.

It’s roasted and crunchy on the outside, absolutely falling apart inside. Slathered in a delicious brown sauce that’s absolutely to die for. It’s the perfect antidote for anyone who thinks all Europeans only eat healthy.

I finally had a few bucks left over and decided to splurge a bit. I got Dead Cells, Untitled Goose Game, and Super Mario Wonder, all for Switch.

Dead Cells is where I’ve been spending most of my time so far. I was never super enamoured with the idea of rogue likes, but something about the style just did it for me. It’s been on my consider list for years now.

Naturally, I’ve been dying like a madman, but ever so slowly I’ve been improving and seeing more of the game as my skill increases. I was correct that it’s stylish as heck, and it’s got a wicked sense of humour. It’s likely I’ll be snagging the DLC once I’ve gotten through the game a few times.

Untitled Goose Game was another game I got on sale and have been playing it with my son. We’ve been laughing at the havoc and mayhem we’ve been causing, but little does he know how close to reality this is; Geese are assholes. It’s a really short game, all things considered. We got through it in about an hour but still laugh at the silliness.

Super Mario Wonder is just a joy! I bought it for the family, but I will definitely be taking it for a thorough playthrough once I’ve beaten it with my wife and kid. My family doesn’t have the patience to sit down and figure out all the fun game breaking methods to solve puzzles (my wife doesn’t understand the point of speedrunning) so that’ll be my longer term project.

That being said, it’s very much Mario, and it really gives me an idea of what would happen if you had Shigeru Miyamoto drop acid before coming up with a game design. It’s so much fun to see the different Wonder effects and how they change the whole feel of the level.

One of the groups mentioned in the article were the stateless. I was unsure what that meant, specifically, so a quick search brought me to this article from Politico which describes them as being former citizens of the USSR who had settled in Latvia and Estonia. When the declared independence they were not granted automatic citizenship in either country. However, Russia would grant citizenship to any former Soviet if requested.

I find it interesting that they chose not to do so. Per the article, it appears that those same people voted for independence from Russia with the fall of the Soviet Union, but then made them sort-of-non-citizens. The argument being that they would have voted for a re-approximation with Russia. A strange argument to make…

Interestingly, Lithuania, the other Baltic state, extended citizenship to all and has no stateless people.

Speaking as an immigrant myself, integration is in fact difficult, but not impossible. So there’s likely something inherent to the situation in the Baltics that causes this phenomenon. Anyone have any insight?

She uses browser extensions to search for coupons and maximize credit-card benefits. It’s also easier for her to fill in her credit-card information with her computer in front of her and her password manager on hand, she says. And she can more easily double-check her calendar when booking flights.

But, I don't get what your endgame is. Like, you make it seem like if the other party wins, the country is screwed. but you can't possibly think that the country will forever vote for your party for President, right? So you think America is destined to go downhill depending on how many years the opposing party is in power?

There have been very few elections in my lifetime, or even within the last century, that I would truthfully consider that liberal (small L) democracy was in any way at stake in the US. The closest may have been either FDR with 4 consecutive terms (though the argument d be made due to WWII), or G. W. Bush having been selected via Supreme Court decision. However, neither of them made explicit their desire for revenge against their political opponents (both real and imagined).

Given this explicit statement, adding to this the solid bloc of blind followers willing to risk jail to defend someone whom they see as godlike, and will do anything he tells them to, I have actual fears of the future of the government under Trump in a second term.

So, you ask what my endgame is? It’s the quite literal survival of the American system of government as a liberal democracy. I say this having lived through 9/11 and the Reagan years.

Oh man, I’ve found some great channels that really clicked with me in the past few years.

TronicsFix - I’ve recently become interested in making electronics repairs into a hobby. Here he’ll walk you through his logic and provides explanations or thoughts when a repair works or doesn’t.

TimberW0lf Studios - Production values are through the roof in this series of videos. The ones that got me hooked are The Edit of Evangelion, an ongoing series breaking down Neon Genesis Evangelion and describing the themes throughout the series. I’ve learned quite a lot about how shoot composition affects your understanding of characters through placement, coloring, and why those elevator scenes are actually important!

12tone - This creator has an amazing depth and breadth of music theory knowledge and showcases it by breaking down famous songs to explain how the function, and what makes them noteworthy. A personal favorite of mine are the two videos describing Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah (Bonus video on that song’s key)
