Oh man, I’ve found some great channels that really clicked with me in the past few years.

TronicsFix - I’ve recently become interested in making electronics repairs into a hobby. Here he’ll walk you through his logic and provides explanations or thoughts when a repair works or doesn’t.

TimberW0lf Studios - Production values are through the roof in this series of videos. The ones that got me hooked are The Edit of Evangelion, an ongoing series breaking down Neon Genesis Evangelion and describing the themes throughout the series. I’ve learned quite a lot about how shoot composition affects your understanding of characters through placement, coloring, and why those elevator scenes are actually important!

12tone - This creator has an amazing depth and breadth of music theory knowledge and showcases it by breaking down famous songs to explain how the function, and what makes them noteworthy. A personal favorite of mine are the two videos describing Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah (Bonus video on that song’s key)

I would love for you to elaborate on how you configured that setup, and how you get the Pi and laptop talking. I’m looking at options for a home lab as well and found this much more realistic than going all out for a whole new server/NAS.

So, I tried my hand at this recipe to use some Tofu I bought. A version of Chinese Takeout Fried Tofu with Broccoli and Carrots.

I lacked Broccoli and Carrots, so I used Bell Peppers and Leek instead. The important thing though was the sauce. I used Oyster Sauce and a mix of light and dark Soy Sauce to get a hint of that Chinese restaurant flavor.

It turned out pretty good. A nicely crisp tofu and crunchy bell peppers made for a pleasant meal.

Notes for next time: have broccoli and carrots on hand; want to try some Sherry out Xiaoxing wine with the sauce mix.

I like how infectiously positive Michael Keaton is about this movie. The fact that they’re going back to mostly practical effects speaks well of what I expect the movie to look and feel like. That Tim Burton got to finally make this movie must have been a bit of a dream come true for him.

That being said, there are some movies that I think are so perfect, any sequel would likely spoil it; Beetlejuice is one such movie.

people have been accused of writing the Marvel movies

I just had to come in and say that your joke did not go unnoticed, nor properly appreciated.

I haven't heard of anyone being accused of copyright infringement for making another film that reuses a plot with different comic book characters.

But more to the point, this argument would literally make every version of Journey to the West illegal. Everything from Dragon Ball to The Miraculous Ladybug would be sued to oblivion for copying the concepts.

I’m glad someone else brought up the idea of using the leftover brine to produce sea salt.

I don’t know the specifics of typical sea salt production, so I don’t know how they deal with all the “stuff” that’s not salt or water. Is the salt treated in some way prior to packaging, aside from those products that add iodine or other minerals?

Regardless, I saw this when it was originally posted and I’m glad to see it get more attention. Hopefully this can actually become a real and usable product, cause goodness knows we’ll need it, and likely sooner than we think.

Or how we now have Medicare with the option to negotiate drug prices.

Or how we ask for the newest drug because it’s one of the only countries that allows advertising of prescription drugs.

I’m generally seeing a lot of confusion here about what this actually is. The whole idea here is not that Amazon had bought Crunchyroll, but that you can now access Crunchyroll from the Amazon Prime Video interface as a separate channel subscription.

As an example, assume an average Amazon Prime member wants to watch the Halo series on Paramount+, they can scroll to the show and it will offer them to subscribe to the channel for $X.xx per month. They can then access the channel through their normal Prime Video app. The same thing applies to Crunchyroll. They can choose to subscribe through the app and be billed as part of their Prime membership. Basically just facilitating your parting with your money.

In my experience Chrome, aside from the privacy issue, is the fact that it’s a massive resource hog. Interestingly, there’s an apparent parallel to Google Search itself, being that it began as this quick, clean way to search, and has torne into this frustrating mess of Sponsored results and SOE nonsense. Chrome began as a lightweight browser that was clean and really optimised resources. Now, it’s still quick, but it’s so resource intensive I can’t have more than a handful of tabs open without performance issues.

Fascinating, how they figured out a way to make such common materials into what is essentially a giant battery. The best part is that they can, quite literally, build a foundation of a house and have it potentially store the renewable energy generated throughout the day, releasing it as needed.

One thing I didn’t see touched upon though, and not sure if it’s even an issue, is if it would lose capacity over time, like current battery technology. If so, could we go about replacing it, or repairing it to bring back storage capacity? The how though, sounds like another engineering problem.

We may have to dig into the details. The article itself is here, but need to log in to access the full text.

    Per the abstract:

Results revealed orthonasal odour detection threshold concentrations of 0.82 and 8.3 μg/kg in water and 6.5 and 53 μg/kg in beer, for (R)- and (S)-linalool, respectively.

The comparative is likely buried inside the actual text, but this gives some insight into how beer brewers can estimate flavour and aroma changes.

As mentioned by @tannhauser, the control group will receive the current standard of care to avoid ethical concerns. However, in a medical setting there is a situation where, when the drug is so obviously beneficial that it would be unethical to withhold it as treatment, it can be administered to the control group. Whether during or after the study, I can’t recall, and my Google-fu is failing me to find the name of this situation.

I was on the wagon for almost 13 years, having missed out on some great anime over the years. Recently though, I’ve come back to the dark side and started on the current reigning king of Shonen, One Piece, along with the big hitters Overlord, Spy x Family, Attack on Titan, and Demon Slayer. So between seasons I’ve been going through the backlog and picking up on some shows. One of those is Made in Abyss, which has really surprised me. Almost halfway through the first season and I can see that there are some haunting revelations to come. For now though, it’s still relatively lighthearted. We’ll see what happens…

I’ve just recently heard about this fan project called One Pace which edits the anime episodes of One Piece to for the pacing of the manga.

I’ve been watching the anime now for over 2 years, having done a marathon of watching merely 5 or so minutes of each episode during battle scenes, and most of the episodes during slower sections. It still took almost 2 months to get through 700 episodes! I think this could be the answer to those that want to enjoy the anime without 2 minutes of Luffy and [main arc villain] screaming at each other every episode until the progress that fight.
