I'm just trying to share my stupid little blog and add to the discourse. I'm not cross posting across the internet, just on tildes cause I like the community & kind of hope that some folk might enjoy reading some of this stuff .
I'll stop if it's too much, but tis just a hobby to keep the existential fear at bay...

Sometimes, community members might feel like they need a very long post with very high value content like this Tunic review, before contributing. Which I think we all like and appreciate. But, it's also okay also to cut loose a little bit, say hello on more carefree threads say, over on https://tildes.net/~life. You've mentioned that the game is nostalgic: why not come here and share a bit more about other things that make you feel this way, or share a fond memory of playing earlier Zelda titles? :) I'd love to hear more of your thoughts back then on bombing walls randomly hoping for a cave to turn up.
Just to differentiate from folks who try to get us to click on links away from Tildes, without sticking around.

I got to enjoy this one with my kid playing on a seperate computer :) they're better at soul-sy combat, but I have more patience and love for decoding languages. They also don't have ADHD, so I relied on them for inputting those very very long sequences that somehow my brain refuses to be able to do. Thankfully the game was very sparing with them. What a great time we had, exchanging hand written notes and protecting each other from spoilers in turn.
I completed the first run of the game, but I did not :
complete the Hero's Laurels challenge without resorting to God mode. You can ask me to kill a series of mini bosses consecutively, you can make me use items, and you can make them really hard. But you can't do all three to me at the same time, I'm just a middle aged scrub.
kill the Heir. I didn't want to kill them: I know the story now and I know there's a better way.
complete the Final puzzle. My kid and I gave it a couple months and tried various ideas. In the end I'm glad we looked it up that was crazy. Good job folks who figured it out
begin my New Game Plus. Again, I'm just a scrub and decoding the booklet entirely and the little secrets were already fun for me. I am not looking for a challenge
I'll also add that there was a huge rush of nostalgic satisfaction for my decoding the booklet. I used to play second hand games from my gamer uncles, and sometimes there'd be mysterious notes like this. We didn't read any Japanese, and this is before the internet, so hand writing notes with cool symbols was totally part of RPGs. Fantastic.

This was one of the best games I have played in recent years.. I still haven't fully finished it because I didn't want it to end (and I'm now a true believer that there are deeper secrets yet to be found). It is extremely rare for games to feel so lovingly made - in fact this might be the clearest example of a passion project that I can think of. Everything is just so beautiful and cohesive, and it works in a way that you don't even understand until late in the game. By far my favourite part of the game is the manual.. the best word I can think of to describe it is "special". The first game I ever played was Link to the Past, so it was like mainlining nostalgia.
Do you want simple yes / no answer to 'have I reached the end of secrets'? You can spoilerbox where you finished and I can reply with Y/N or optionally "how much further" if you like. I very much...

I very much agree, it was lovingly and beautifully made.
I already did a bit of research regarding the ending, and am trying to unlock everything. I was mostly referring to fan theory / speculation that there may be yet undiscovered secrets in the game.

The one fairy near the two fox statues in town? How tf was I supposed to know to bomb the wall? I never bombed any other walls in the game, but in hindsight, I must have missed a bunch of secrets by not bombing every wall
I must have spent like an hour trying every Holy Cross combination on the bushes by the statue! I thought it was a connect-the-dots puzzle, just like those connect-the-flowers puzzles and connect-the-stones puzzles, this time with bushes. Nope, I had to bomb the damn wall... Lol I did not like that puzzle
I couldn't be bothered with the Final Puzzle either, once I had an inkling of what I had to do for it, I noped out of there right away and looked it up, and I'm happy with my decision lol

100% regret I watched a playthrough of it instead of playing it myself. It is just amazing how the puzzles are introduced bit by bit. Excellent game.
That's a shame....any possibility of watching someone else play it together for the first time?
