I spent way too long thinking this was a hoax filmed with actual puppets and edited as a game trailer. I finally realized eyelids and pupils are moving in a way that’s not possible with real puppets… only then did I believe it’s real. The textures, lighting, and movements look totally live-action. It’s technically very impressive! Feels like I’m watching The Muppet Show.

Personally I'm not interested in a Punch Out kind of game, or really in the whole puppet aesthetic, but credit where it’s due for originality, and what appears to be flawless execution. I guess we don’t know yet if these visuals are representative of actual gameplay but if they are, they nailed it.

I'm very interested in a Muppet Punch Out but would like to see unedited footage of a round or two first. Trailers like this with roughly 5 seconds of gameplay interspersed throughout two minutes of in-engine cutscenes do little more than mildly annoy me these days.

It says "in engine footage" and it still made me look for what was game and what was prerendered.

I feel like we're well past the point of diminishing returns when it comes to chasing further improvements in the 'photorealistic movie AAA' aesthetic, but there's clearly a lot of potential left for other visual styles.

I'll give it a shot, but I feel like this is likely to be more of a technological showcase than a blockbuster game. The puppets in that trailer look more like real puppets than even the best game engines have attempted to make humans look real and there are more textures to puppets. The studio built an engine that can do that in real-time, it'll be a very valuable asset.

But humans are the single most difficult thing to make look realistic. Our brains are specifically wired to be able to recognize the features of other humans. That's why we even have the uncanny valley. If a humans hair looks off we feel uncomfortable. If a puppets fur is a very simple texture or color, or doesn't move correctly we won't even notice.
Artists have had hyper realistic still life since the 1700's but when it comes to portraiture I don't think there's anything very realistic until the mid 1900's. Art historians feel free to tear me apart here, I'm far from an expert.

I really dig the art style. I'm not sure if I'm looking for Punch Out with puppets though, but I definitely get the appeal. I think what will sink or swim Felt That: Boxing will be the final price...

I think what will sink or swim Felt That: Boxing will be the final price of the game.
