I just released a game for #GMTKjam
BELTRUNNER is the first game built using Jinks, which is my bespoke game engine (oversimplification of the year). But more than that it’s a totally new way of making games!
Some people find it hard to believe that a new way to make games can be invented in the year 2026, but rest assured: I have done it.😎
I wrote a game design postmortem: https://blog.gingerbeardman.com/2026/07/30/beltrunner-game-design-postmortem/ And there's now more about Jinks: https://blog.gingerbeardman.com/2026/07/30/hi-jinks/

I ran into minor glitch getting started: pressing up and down arrows scrolled the page, so it wasn't really playable. Going into full screen mode fixed it.

The sound does turn off briefly after game over, for a moment of solitude, and then starts right up again when the attract mode begins.
I know you're going for a classic arcade vibe, but I'm not sure sound in "attract mode" makes sense for a website? If you want to keep it anyway, maybe have an obvious way to turn it off?

The game doesn't make any sound until you opt-in by clicking it to activate it. This is etiquette that the browser enforces, which I think is great. Once you've clicked to play a game, I think...

I can't make any changes to the game during the jam voting period. So, I'm afraid you'll have to use your own volume controls. Cheers.
Thanks for this, I also encountered the same problem and was about to bail before giving it another shot. Edit: Not that I was any better when I could see what I was doing...

I’ll talk more about Jinks in the near future.
Until then my high score on Beltrunner is 327300

Maybe the sound should turn off after game over?
