From a pro-consumer perspective this would be great, but from a business perspective there's pretty much no reason for Sony to make these changes, especially for a niche card game that will have to compete with hearthstone. There were far bigger titles that lacked cross-platform support due to sony shenanigans. We'll likely only see cross-platform support if/when xbox or another console takes the lead again, which is the great thing about competition. Bethesda wouldn't dare threaten this with a popular title because they know Sony is in the position to sell them millions of units.

Maybe, I would counter that by saying Bethesda basically has to make a special version of the game to fit sony's guidelines. The game that Sony users get is not the same experience that other users get and hopefully moving forward Bethesda will take this stand with other games. This is a small game sure, but it could be a good starting point to move to making the stand on bigger titles.

I know I am being overly optimistic, but that's what I am going to hope for until they prove me wrong.

Yea I hope so, but quotes like these make me think its more about the profitability of the platform they're trying to create and not the consumer experience.

While "it would be nice" to have cross-play on Fallout 76, said Bethesda Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications Pete Hines, it's "OK" if that's not possible.
