I played another deck-building roguelike before this one called Monster Slayers. I believe it was a solo dev project because it was much less polished. It had a similar meta based on purging/replacing junk cards and/or upgrading them.
When I exhausted the playability of that one, I was still looking for deck-building roguelikes and tried out Guild of Dungeoneering. It looked really neat, in addition to drawing cards for abilities, you would also draw for dungeon tiles. Unfortunately, I couldn't get into it. The combat seemed completely 1 dimensional and the dungeon building wasn't an interesting mechanic.
Finally, I came across this game. It had all of the features that I enjoyed in Monster Slayers, but it was well polished, challenging, and the mechanics were well balanced. It's possible to build super powerful decks in this game but the monster difficulty scales pretty sharply. The thing that really makes the game shine in my opinion is the Relic system. These are basically passive abilities that you collect throughout the run. Some of them are incredibly powerful depending on how you leverage their buffs and debuffs. The relic system adds an incredible replay value to the game. Even after beating it several times with each character, running across this thread has inspired me to install it again.
Guild of Dungeoneering is a really cool idea but bad execution imo. By the time you get to the second world every dungeon is essentially a dice roll because you'll often die to the first NPC...

Also, I thought this game would be really good for touch controls on the switch but so far there's been nothing in that arena to my knowledge, which is a shame.

Whether it uses the touch controls or not, I'm waiting for the switch port. Unfortunately it means I will probably pay more than it's current price but what can ya do.

I wouldn't buy it on the switch probably, but I thought it could be cool and I might buy a second copy for on the go play.
I mean I don't know it would be 30, but either way I know that I can get better performance out of my PC. If it could get 60 on the Switch it could 90 or more out of my PC. Plus, handheld mode is...

I love this game and it would be especially amazing on a mobile device. Especially since the game is built in Java already and they were able to port to switch.

I had quite a bit of trouble winning with The Silent too, I think I probably had at least 10 failed runs before finally winning one. If I remember right, I ended up doing it with a very block-heavy deck that built up a ridiculous amount of defense with some things that would allow it to persist between turns (like the Blur card).
Something that can help a lot is just a little bit of poison in a block deck. If you can get an upgraded noxious fumes going early in the fight it’ll do a ludicrous amount of damage for the 1...

I like the sort of "stacking" that I can get with the Silent (building poison damage) and the Ironclad (building strength) and so far I'm trying to figure that out with the Defect. I'm still not as good with the exhaust meta on either character, I can win with the Silent but it has to be done in a specific way.

Oh is this port locked at 30? That's a shame. A lot of ports have been able to push 60. This game didn't look that graphically intensive.

Funny enough, the Silent is far and away my best character (currently on Ascension 7) but I still struggle a lot with the Defect.
