Proton is incredibly impressive and has made a ton of progress since its introduction two years ago. It's at the point where I'm surprised when something doesn't work, because most games run flawlessly (granted, I tend to play a lot of smaller indie titles and don't really delve into multiplayer games much, which is where the bigger issues still lie).

I often forget whether a given game I'm running is native or running through Proton and have to check before I submit my ProtonDB report. I have >300 reports on the site currently, and probably ~70% of them report that their given game runs fine without issues. Many of the ones that do report issues are old and might have improved with later updates of Proton (I haven't gone back and re-tested a lot of them).

Proton is what enabled me to be comfortable moving to Linux as my primary OS, as it let me hop off Windows without "losing" a bunch of my Steam library. It's also noteworthy that I am pretty far from the usual demographic of "Linux user", which shows how far Linux has come in terms of usability and comfort, both of which Proton help with.

In celebration of two years, here's a smattering of "bigger" Windows titles that Proton has enabled me to play through on my Linux laptop:

    • MOTHERGUNSHIP
    • Q.U.B.E. 2
    • Quarantine and Subsurface Circular
    • Shadow Complex Remastered
    • Spyro Reignited Trilogy
    • Team Sonic Racing
    • The Adventure Pals
    • The Witness
    • Yoku's Island Express

Edit: just noting it because it is a gpu enhanced physics indie game, which is probably less likely to work on proton than other titles might be.

I’ve been really impressed with proton so far, and I’m really glad that Valve have been pushing Linux so hard recently. My one gripe is that it doesn’t really work with many games that use anti cheat, although that’s more on the game developers for opting to use anti cheat systems that hook into the operating system at such a low level.

I was already a Linux user previously but the integration of Proton certainly has pushed me to use it more for gaming as a result (I used to just... do other things since Linux has been my only OS for a while now).

So in a similar vein to @kfwyre, here's some of the games I've been able to play thanks to Proton:

    • Grand Theft Auto V
    • Sonny
    • Metal Gear Solid V
    • Nier: Automata
    • Warframe
    • DOOM (2016)
    • Hitman (2016)
    • The STEINS;GATE VNs (Original, 0, Linear Bounded Phenogram, My Darling's Embrace)
    • The Devil on the G-String
    • Infectonator 3
    • The Master Chief Collection
    • The Henry Stickmin Collection

(This list turned out a lot longer than I expected and there's more that I haven't played yet but are next on my plate)
