Reforged was extremely disappointing, but if you only look at things in isolation and short-term as publicly traded companies do, this is where you will end up. Apparently no one thought that remaking the classic RTS properly could mean more than just profit by pushing player counts in other Warcraft properties like WoW or Hearthstone. It's been 20 years, I'm sure there are WoW players now who haven't played WC3 at all, it could've been a great way to push them towards a purchase.
But none of that happened, and even worse, Blizzard removed Warcraft 3 Classic from their storefront, making it impossible for people who own this 20 year old game to play it legally. While Reforged features a "Classic" toggle, it is far removed from the original, missing some online ranked features and being more broken at launch than the original, even if you played it in classic mode.
Jason Schreier is a gift to videogame journalism. I can't believe Kotaku let him go. I read anything from him that I come across, even when it's not something that really interests me.

I noticed the same gaps when I read it. I thought it was actually on my end -- maybe an overly aggressive adblock rule or something -- but it persisted when I checked on a different browser.

It's a travesty.
