Fitness Weekly Discussion
What have you been doing lately for your own fitness? Try out any new programs or exercises? Have any questions for others about your training? Want to vent about poor behavior in the gym? Started a new diet or have a new recipe you want to share? Anything else health and wellness related?
I just want to share that I'm losing weight again.
I haven't changed my fitness regime much, I'm just paying a bit more attention to what I eat. I've been eating out way too much the past few months and what I've lost in wallet weight, I gained in fat.
Anyway, I'm going down again and… urgh, thank god. Slowly but no matter. It was starting to affect me mentally.
Congrats on getting back to losing weight! Eating out is so easy, but so hard on the scale and wallet. I can definitely relate there. Even just eating out once in a week can tip the scale upwards.
I've finally and properly gotten back into running. I'm aiming to run every other day and doing at least a mile. I'm focusing on distance and trying to get my mile pacing down to sub 12min.
The rate at which I've been improving was really shocking. My first mile again was 15:30, the next 14:30 and now I'm down to about 13:30. I need to figure out training and how best to build up endurance. I've been focusing on keeping my heart rate in the improving aerobic fitness area (allegedly according to my Polar monitor lol).
The biggest part for me is that I've just wanted to run again. Not necessarily because of the health benefits, but because I enjoyed distance running and want to do 5ks and more again. I had a lot of fun and I have a friend who wants to run a race together and I'm just excited for that stuff!
That's pretty much it. Challenge yourself to run longer/or faster every now and then. But as long as you do it often, you will get better. Listen to your body, don't overdo it, and be patient during the plateaus.
Thank you!! That's so good to know, I'll be incorporating that into my running!
I’ve been (e-)biking a ton lately. Now that my partner is working from home with his new job, I have to get out of the house more because I hate working that close to somebody all the time, haha. So more time at the coworking office, and today I’m at a coffee shop in a nearby town since I’m meeting some folks here for lunch. I also rode to the community garden last night, which is ~10 miles each way.
That's so great that you get the extra mobility of an e-bike. I know of at least one city in a state that is giving out grants for its residents to purchase e-bikes (Denver, CO for those interested). They seem pretty useful for giving you an even greater distance that you can cover, especially if you can do 20miles in an evening!
I have done plenty of acoustic biking, but the e-bike has made it so much easier to ride as my main mode of transportation. I’m not quite as exhausted and sweaty after each ride, which makes a huge difference. And it’s a lot quicker, averaging 15mph vs. about 10-11mph on the ol’ pedal bike.
Been doing fairly lengthy evening walks with my wife and kids (30 - 60 min), and slowly working out my joint issues. I don't know if I'll ever be back in running shape to play Ultimate again (i have a bad knee), but I'm trying to do some light jogging at least to maintain some aerobic exercise a few times a week.
After moving, I still haven't really set up a spot dedicated to exercising, but I've cleared sufficient space in my office for pushups at least.
Most of my Fitness Regime for the last couple of months has been in the kitchen - still rejigging when and how much I eat. After my knee got all borked, it was easy to just not exercise, which makes it easy to eat too much, and years later I'm still figuring out that balance.
