  Fitness Weekly Discussion
What have you been doing lately for your own fitness? Try out any new programs or exercises? Have any questions for others about your training? Want to vent about poor behavior in the gym? Started a new diet or have a new recipe you want to share? Anything else health and wellness related?
Since starting to go to the gym on my own about 2 months ago, every single week I realize more and more how incompetent my personal trainer was. I've made more progress in those 2 months doing 5/3/1 than I have in 2 years with a trainer.
So everything’s fine with me now. And I think my brain adjusted and dieting isn’t as difficult right now. I did realize one thing. When I initially lost the weight I noticed I was cooler, as in calmer, I would speak slower and you know just had a gentle overall demeanor. I assumed that was a result of personality changes from looking different. But throughout the past year I was a little bit more energetic and manic. Part of that was my anxiety, but I think now I realize part of that was also my overeating (as well as higher consumption of sugars and whatnot). And that not an insignificant portion of my more calm demeanor was loss of energy from a calorie deficit.
The steady march of progress continues, im more reliably completing v4 boulders at the gym and making good progress on my first 5.12 route. Its been really cool to see that ive hit the bouldering experience phase where more skilled/stronger people at the gym take my beta (way of doing a problem) and collaborate with me to solve stuff they can sometimes get stuck on. Still lots of progress to be made but its cool to be at this level. Theres a clear mutual respect that im feeling, and it feels good.
I also took a friend climbing for the second time, its pretty fun amping them up and offering advice. I think theyre enjoying it even though they have clear reservations about the whole being high up thing. Its cool seeing them try and sweat it out and try again, and it kind of feels like im playing a small part in their health journey and thats really comforting to be a part of something so positive on an individual level like that.
Your positive attitude and joy in inspiring others made for a wonderful read. Kudos, and best of luck to you on your fitness journey -‿-
I completed my 5k goal! In fact, I ran more than that since Garmin doesn’t like any interval other than .5 or 1 mile. So after teasing me with 4.8k runs, it threw 5.6k at me.
I knew naming the plan “5k plan, but for sure this time” would be the boost I needed.
Now onto getting all of my other runs to 5kish, then some maintaining/surviving winter, then the journey to 10k begins!
