Fitness Weekly Discussion
What have you been doing lately for your own fitness? Try out any new programs or exercises? Have any questions for others about your training? Want to vent about poor behavior in the gym? Started a new diet or have a new recipe you want to share? Anything else health and wellness related?
Presently doing a terrible job of not eating before bed.
There, that's the effort I'm putting in.
Just finished Week 8 of the NHS Couch to 5k program. One week to go.
I used to be very fat and unfit (140Kg) but lost that and became a pretty good runner, doing sub 90 minute half marathons, 19 minute 5k etc, in my 40s! Dropped to 69kg. Then after Covid, excuses, excuses, stopped running, climbed to 107kg again. Boo!
I’m back under 100 now, trying to get to around 80
The couch to 5k program has been excellent. I get to be coached by Ella Toone, and I’m having a great time.
I’m never going to beat my lifetime bests ever again, and coming to terms with that has been instrumental in learning to love running again.
If it helps, I'm never going to beat your lifetime bests either!
I did kind of go all in. Won a lot of age bracket prizes. I have a lot of excuses for getting from there to where I am now :( Most of them not very good. Wish I'd stopped more gracefully, ramped down and kept my diet in line.
A sudden stop, then eating off a bin lid was not a good combo for me
After years of an on-off relationship with lifting at the gym, I am more motivated than ever to build muscle and lose fat. Unfortunately, I don't want to increase my caloric intake as I really don't want more fat. Which is a detriment to building muscle... I think I'm at the point where I need to eat more though, because my bench press and overhead press are both stalled (at 60 kg and 35 kg respectively).
My current plan is to just eat at a very slight deficit and lift three times per week and slowly try to lean out. Perhaps doing a higher deficit would be the 'better' choice, but in the past that has been the quickest stripper of any motivation.
Not yet lifting but doing slower diet changes has been the best choice for me too. I didn't want to do massive changes like I have before because while they worked they left little in the way of fun and existing is already annoying at times may as well live.
It still has resulted in good changes about a 25lb loss overall (over the course of a year++)and while still bigger than most at around 270 I look like I want too just want to lose a little more for getting my belly off the wall more when rock climbing and move a bit faster at pickleball.
Started going to the gym on my lunch breaks. It's nice since I get a mental break from work. :)
I was at my leanest from December to February. I was under 20% body fat. But I would frequently feel light headed at the gym. I’m now about 20-22% (it’s hard to gage since I have a decent amount of loose skin on my abdomen).
I much prefer the way I look under 20% but I feel a lot better when I’m just a bit above that. It’s a difficult choice to make for sure.
Also after almost two straight years of only doing free weights on my upper body, I got on the machines last week and felt so much better. I forgot how much easier it was on my joints and I felt like I could go harder.
