Senator Cruz is one of the most despicable people in the U.S. government. He's so uniformly disliked by his colleagues that Senator Lindsey Graham (nearly as loathsome) once remarked, “If you killed Ted Cruz on the floor of the Senate, and the trial was in the Senate, nobody would convict you.”
Based on past performances, I wouldn't put it past him to wring every scrap of publicity and funding he can get from this crisis.
I don't wish him harm, but I do wish that he was quarantined from coming anywhere near a legislative role.

I'm also surprised the virus has actually reached a person of power.

More that they were comically/criminally incompetent. You had the deputy health minister holding a press conference while symptomatic! The minister of health had a closed parliamentary meeting and tested temperatures before the session, 3 people* were found to have elevated temperatures and so were asked to not attend and self quarantine... and they fucking declined and attended the session anyway.
*Including Ahmad Amirabadi Farahani who was the one who "exposed" the high numbers of deaths in Qom and criticised the government for not doing enough to stop the spread of the virus.

This paper which I read last night (ironically while I was at the A&E clinic for a non-COVID-19 related issue), Adjusted age-specific case fatality ratio during the COVID-19 epidemic in Hubei, China suggests a strong correlation between age and CFR, including a 9.4% chance of death for those who contract the virus between the ages of 60-69, rising to 20% for 70-79 year olds, and 36% for those 80 years and older.
This doesn't address susceptibility, but it appears you're at a significantly greater chance of dying if you do contract the virus and you're a senior citizen. Given the age of Trump and many members of congress, I'd say there's a very likely chance of one or more of them dying if a significant number of U.S. representatives were to contract the virus.
It's strange - I was talking with one of my elder pool friends this morning, and she said, "I wish they'd stop making such a fuss about coronavirus. It's not worse than the 'flu for us; they used...
It's strange - I was talking with one of my elder pool friends this morning, and she said, "I wish they'd stop making such a fuss about coronavirus. It's not worse than the 'flu for us; they used to call winter pneumonia 'the old man's friend' because you'd pass quickly and not linger in pain." I don't think that kind of pragmatic acceptance will be exhibited by any of our gerontocratic ruling classes, who seem to expect healthy immortality.
Yeah. Here's a visual representation of that data in the paper: Note: Scale at the bottom stops at 25% (for fatalities and % of total population that fits these demographics). Personally I don't...

Note: Scale at the bottom stops at 25% (for fatalities and % of total population that fits these demographics). Personally I don't like this as it makes the data more misleading at a glance, so I'm pointing this out before you take a look, but in this case it does make the data easier to read/visualize.
Amid questions about whether Pence and Trump had been exposed to a coronavirus patient at the CPAC 2020 conference last month, the vice president said that he had not yet taken a test. He added that he did not know whether the president had been tested, but would be sure to get an "answer from the White House physician very quickly."
So the 1 in 1000 "there is no way this could actually happen" timeline is here and we could actually fall into it. I wonder what a president Mike Pence would look like, both as a trump replacement...
So the 1 in 1000 "there is no way this could actually happen" timeline is here and we could actually fall into it. I wonder what a president Mike Pence would look like, both as a trump replacement and debater? I presume not very different, at least in the former. Also trump could just get the virus and live, death isn't guaranteed here, even for a 77-year old. That would mean no debates against anyone or the ability for anyone to come near him though.
Assuming his current doctor is of the same caliber that gave him a life expectancy of 200+, could he get a literal sick note for debates? Or could he hide a positive test as "a matter of national...

Props to him? I'm also surprised the virus has actually reached a person of power.

"A member of a council that advises Iran’s supreme leader died Monday from the new coronavirus, becoming the highest-ranking official within the Islamic Republic’s Shiite theocracy to be killed by the illness ravaging the country. [...] The virus earlier killed Hadi Khosroshahi, Iran’s former ambassador to the Vatican, as well as a recently elected member of parliament."
Oh.
So this is actually quite serious then.

Pence was asked about this at their press conference today:
It's been 15 days so it looks like he's safe. I guess that's one less off-chance to distract myself with.
Thoughts + prayers
dont want to break any rules and just say i "hope" he's safe
