Last Friday I decided to take on intermittent fasting as a way to lose weight. I'm just at a point in my life where I can't live like this (obese) anymore for a dozen reasons and I'm ready to change. My approach so far is to only eat between 12pm and 8pm. I know there are other, more extreme methods of IM out there, but this one struck me as the most approachable and least likely to fail.

Almost a week into it and the hunger pains in the morning are less significant and easier to ignore. Helps that this has been an incredibly busy and hectic week at work, so there's a lot distracting me from the hunger.

Goal for next week is to start taking a walk every day and work on eating healthier foods.

IF is a really good way to go. I did the same way in the past, eating between 12 and 8 with good success.

      Good luck!

Telling people to not refrain from eating to avoid ulcers is bad advice. While having an empty stomach can exacerbate a duodenal or peptic ulcer, there is no evidence to suggest that a lack of eating will cause one. In fact, eating is a vector of infection for the most common source of ulcers, an overabundance of Helicobacter pylori.

I've done a handful of 3 or 4 day fasts over the last few years, and they've been very useful in helping me maintain my weight. The only issues I've had are electrolyte depletion because I forgot to consume salt once, and the fact that you cant really lift weights while sufficiently fasted.

The worst you can do is starving, its bad because next time you eat your body will suck everything. This is why you shouldn't eat candy and chocolate etc with empty stomach or after waking up. Probably the same reason we eat desert in last order of the meal.

The reason you shouldn't eat candy on an empty stomach is that it can spike insulin levels because you are rapidly absorbing sugar.

And passing big periods of time without eating will make you have ulcer.

        This is just plain false.

Don't try to have only 3 big meals a day, or starving, have breakfast, middle of the morning, lunch, midle of the day, dinner, something before going to bed.

If this works for you, you're welcome to advocate for it, but as you mentioned in another comment, you are not a medical professional. You should not offer advice you can not back up with science, unless you caveat this advice with "this is my opinion". Even then, if you're an amateur I would suggest avoiding giving advice at all and instead listening to people who have knowledge and experience first.

Broke my overhead press record at 132.5x5, I'm very much looking forward to finally hitting the 1 plate OHP. My grip strength is holding me back from upping my deadlift and chins, it's frankly embarrassing, and being complicated by a genetic disease I suffer from.

As dumb as it sounds, I'm starting to lift for vanity for the first time since I have a wedding coming up. I'll focus more on heavy squats and deadlifts again once all the photos are out of the way.

What training are you doing for your grip? Have you spoken with a doctor about how to safely train your grip while accommodating your disease?

Basically deadlifts and body weight bar pulls only for training. Talked to my doctor about it a long time ago, but he didn't really tell me anything I didn't figure out on my own. I should do anything that has the potential to generate scar tissue in my hands. I actually had to give up rock climbing, which is what triggered the appearance of the disease in the first place. Someone in their 20's presenting with symptoms is nearly unheard of, it usually takes decades of ordinary hand abuse to present in people.

Can you train your grip directly? Like grippers or wrist rolls or rack pulls or static holds at the top of your deads? I would imagine those wouldn't really have the potential to generate scar tissue any more than deadlifts, but I'm no expert on your condition.

Yeah I'm noodling on ways to handle it without buying more clutter here and there. For now I'm just tossing in dead hangs for time.

I actually bought straps about a week ago, still having trouble using them correctly. I may have to deload to 225 or so and learn to lift with them. I had previously already switched to a hook grip to help deal with the issue, and I'm no longer hook gripping while using straps. Also I can't wrap them around my pullup bar for chins/pull ups properly.

Diet went out of the window this week. I did some pretty strict fasting over the previous two weeks (4x24 and 1x72) but this week has been one thing then another that i can't justify fasting. Nothing particularly "bad" but i hate putting people out or not eating when people cook something for me, especially now that i am gluten free. My sister made a GF cake Tuesday, today is my parents anniversary so we had a special meal, tomorrow i'm doing a big GF shop which means trying something new that is a GF* replacement, Saturday its film night and Sunday its fathers day. I could probably fast/diet in there but it seems a bit pointless, i'll probably omad tomorrow but that's about it until Monday.

*I hate most gluten free stuff, i'd rather just do without instead of eating a poor or even close imitation, so as a compromise with myself i get one replacement thing every big GF shop to try something new. The only thing so far as good as the original is brownie mix. Biscuits are ok too as long as you dont dunk them because they become weird when you dunk 'em.

Before the lockdown, I used to run/cycle at the fitness center of my apt complex. Now, I've been trying my best to run outside and boy do my joints ache! Unfortunately, I'm not able to keep form and run as long as when I ran indoors, so I definitely feel a slump in my attitude and energy level.

A friend recommended Yoga with Adriene https://www.youtube.com/user/yogawithadriene and I love how she conducts her sessions (she also has her videos organized by length and style).

I prefer classes and struggling among others with loud, high bpm music playing in the background, but my runs will have to do for now! Any workout video recs? I think I've had enough of Billy Blanks...

I came across these early Jack LaLanne videos a couple of weeks ago. The workout is failrly light calisthenic work, but it's kinda fun to watch. And check out that onesie and those slippers!
