Been picking up my routine again, pretty much just a daily yoga practice combined with alternating pushups (currently 3x20) and pullups (4x5), and 40 minutes on the elliptical. It's not much, but it keeps my head straight, and at 16 days in a row, it's the longest I've kept up with practically anything. Now I've just gotta keep swimming.

I used to have a whole VR fitness regiment wherein I'd do 10-15 minutes of cardio in VR followed by some strength exercises, but... I hate this heat. I hate it. It just saps all the energy out of me. I become a sweaty lazy mess in the morning and a sweatier lazier mess at night.

Fortunately my weight hasn't gone to hell/I've only gained five pounds, but I need to get back on the wagon. I just haaaaaaaate this heeeeeeeeaaaat.

...and yes I do have AC, but knowing summers are only going to get hotter every year, I feel obliged to tough it out as best I can before resorting to it, so we usually only turn it on in the evenings when it's at its hottest.

I have a Chilldex coming next week, we'll see if that helps at all.

I feel you. Here's how I've been able to cope (using a smart home with manually programmed thermostat logic):

      1. Turn AC to 71 about 3 hour before bed.
      2. About two hours before wakeup, up temp to 75
      3. If Humidity < 45%, increase temp to 78 at wakeup.
      4. Drop temp by 1 degree if humidity climbs above 55% during day, increase 1 if drops below 45%
      5. Drop temp by 2 degrees for an hour if starting any heavily active activity,

That combo insures a gradual enough shift that you don't mind the temperature differential as much. If you keep it under 80 with < 45% humidity, the heat isn't nearly as bad. Only reason dropping to 71 at night is because rest of family are cold sleepers (saves more in winter than costs in summer).

By dropping temp during heavy activity, you'll get cool air in room to make it more bearable. Works even better with a strong fan blowing from AC to your body for exercise (big fan of vornados for that).

Edit: Cool shower after also helps, especially if you air-dry in front of said fan.

I'm finally out of that 84kg average that was hitting me hard. The final key? One more day / week ice skating. I'm now up to 3 days / week and it is hitting me hard financially, because of how far the closest open rink is. I CANNOT WAIT for my local rink's reopening (September 25th. Counting the fucking days!!). I'm planning a solid minimum 20+ hours / week at that one once it reopens.

The Liege rink reopened on Monday. I went there the next day, it was great. It's much cheaper, but much further, so we'll see how often I go there. Two awesome things happened there:

    1. I landed my first jumps! Oh my fucking god, that felt amazing. I was practicing turns and all of a sudden I just completely naturally started doing waltz jumps; and I kept doing it to check it wasn't a fluke.
    2. The rink played Señorita. It's a dumb song, but when I was learning here in Brussels, they were playing it pretty often; so I have a bit of an emotional connection with that song. And this time, I was good enough to actually dance on it.

A friend of mine has picked up ice skating (hockey skates), it seems like my motivation is contagious. She's starting to be stable, it's great to watch.

Picking up figure skating has been with one of the most impactful changes in my life. I've never had such a good motivator to get and remain fit. It's even impacting my working hours. Oh and I have this huge crush on one of the girls that comes to the rink, and she seems to be into me as well.

If this post motivates anyone please harrass me with questions and it'll be a pleasure to answer. I'm completely in love with the sport.

OTOH, this routine came up while looking for rap-based skating programs and it is pretty fucking amazing (especially the second half of his routine).

I currently started doing Tactical Barbell base building. It's a method to build conditioning and strength aimed for operational forces, army, etc, but works for everyone.

I bought the Tactical Barbell II book, it's about conditioning and it's awesome. The first book is not necessary if you know how to do strength training (5/3/1, GZCL, etc, you can choose), but i recommend Tactical Barbell II to everyone who wants to know how to program conditioning.

    I'm on week 1 day 3.

Day one is a circuit of exercises (i chose pushups, squats, kettlebell row, bycicle crunch and kettlebell swings). You do 3 circuits of 20 reps.

Day two and three is running with a heart rate between 120-150 bpm. In a pace you can have a conversation.

Day four is the circuit again, but only 2 sets of 20 reps.

Day six you do the same run (120-150bpm), but more than 30 minutes. At least 35 (if you are a begniner) and maximum 120 minutes.

This block goes for 8 weeks. There is a week that you have to do the circuit with 50 reps. 3 sets of 50 reps of all the exercises!

By the end of the block you will be able to do it and slow run for at least 1 hour.

After that it changes everything and there are high intensity cardio along with long steady distance and strength training.

Let's see how it goes. I'm writing in the daily threads in /r/weightroom

Been maintaining my routine, pretty much.

However, the callouses on my palm don't seem to be cutting it, anymore, when it comes to doing pull-ups/dead-hangs. Can't dead-hang for as long as I'd like as the area where my left middle finger meets the rest of my hand really starts to burn. Also, the pinky side of my left palm's heel has felt increasingly bruised over the last couple of weeks, making dips fairly uncomfortable.

My right hand seems to be fine, though.

Got a new child-hauling back carrier. Holds up to 60 lbs. Child insists on running as fast as possible. At this rate I'll be outrunning Marines within a year. Or I'll horrendously cripple myself....

At this rate I'll be outrunning Marines within a year. Or I'll horrendously cripple myself. Either way: worth it.
