Hey everyone. Today, i had my wisdom teeth removed (two of them anyway), and I currently sitting here with am ice pack pressed against my face trying to type with one hand. I wad wondering, if any Tilderinos with dental experience or who had there teeth removed, have any tips for surviving they next week? I've heard the see one and third day are the worst, is that true?

I had some jaw surgery a few years back and they told me it was an extremely similar recovery to having wisdom teeth removed.

    • The first day wasn’t too bad.
    • Day two the drugs wore off and I felt a little sore.
    • Day three was the worst - the pain wasn’t too bad, just bad enough to keep me from being able to concentrate on a movie or anything longer than a few minutes. Sleeping that third night was pretty rough.
    • Day four I was back at work using only ibuprofen.

I’ve been lucky to avoid any major surgeries or accidents in my life beyond a broken arm and even then I’d say the pain wasn’t too bad. Eat lots of soft foods (in small doses so you don’t upset your stomach with all the medicine kicking around in there...) for the next week and you’ll be good in a few days!

Would it make you feel better if I told you I had four extra wisdom teeth I’ll have to remove someday?

Yeah sleeping is my biggest concern, I'm not the best at it, especially when I can't use my usual aid (chamomile tea) because it interferes with clotting. The numbing agents are starting to wear off, but the pain isn't too bad so far. Really dreading Friday and Saturday when the swelling reaches is worst.

And does that mean you were born with 8 wisdom teeth? That definitely sucks, to need them all removed :(

Just remember that it’s only a few days and it might suck, but it’s a pretty quick recovery, all things considered! And yes, I have 8. I basically have a bunch of extra ones that never broke out...

And yes, I have 8. I basically have a bunch of extra ones that never broke out of the gums just sort of...hanging out there.

Thoroughly clean the wounds after eating; i was given a little squirt bottle to gently blast stuff out. Stay away from foods which make bits that won't soften (e.g. peanuts); they'll get stuck in the hole and are very difficult to dislodge. Plus all of the same wisdom given to kids after losing a tooth, like stop poking it so much with your tongue.

I've always found Excedrin to turn off toothache pain like a switch in about twenty minutes. It's just acetaminophen, aspirin, and a little caffeine. If you're allowed over the counter medications you might give that a shot, see if it works as well for you as it does for me. I still have my wisdom teeth and when they were coming in and settling it'd hurt like hell. Had an infection around one of them too, it even killed that pain.

Thank you for the recommendation about Excedrin! I think I'll try to grab some tomorrow and see how it goes. So far I'm just on ibuprofen and soon maybe acetaminophen, and it's working okay,...

Paracetamol. Stay in bed. There's really no miracle solution, next two days are most likely gonna suck. Drink lots of water, keep it tepid.
