Weekly coronavirus-related chat, questions, and minor updates - week of July 5
This thread is posted weekly, and is intended as a place for more-casual discussion of the coronavirus and questions/updates that may not warrant their own dedicated topics. Tell us about what the situation is like where you live!
Yesterday, I got my third shot :|
The clinical trial I was a part of was unsuccessful, or rather "not successful enough".
CureVac Final Data from Phase 2b/3 Trial of First-Generation COVID-19 Vaccine Candidate, CVnCoV, Demonstrates Protection in Age Group of 18 to 60
"Vaccine efficacy of 48% against COVID-19 of any severity across all age groups and 15 variants" => This is not enough to clear EMA approval, so they're developing a new version of the vaccine, and will not pursue approval on the version I got. They advised all members of the trial to get a normal vaccine instead.
I got Moderna yesterday, I was quite worried about side effects, especially since the first and second shot got me a severe burning fever. It's been ok. Very tired and some muscle pain, but way less side effects than the first two.
But with all that, it really pisses me off meeting an antivaxxer explaining to me they "don't want to be experimented on", when over 3bn people have taken their first shot already.
Thank you for participating in the trial! It's because of willingness like that that the rest of us can get vaccinated.
Thanks, that's nice to hear :)
I’m sorry your trial didn’t work out, but I’m happy you’re getting the real thing now!
Thank you! Me too, it'll be nice to finally have a certificate.
I never felt unsafe with the curevac one and, despite the poor overall performance, the performance for my age group is excellent and I'm likely as protected as anyone my age already vaccinated.
But those were the risks :) I'm still tired but just about recovered. On my way to the rink now!
