Well I guess this keeps Sweden out of NATO for a few more months at minimum, but I doubt anything really significant will come of it, nobody is going to be invading Sweden regardless.

This just shows that Turkey isn't a secular country like they claim.

They haven't seriously tried to pretend they are a secular country for a while now, really ever since that one failed coup a few years back. I'm just glad I got to visit and see the Hagia Sophia...

I'm just glad I got to visit and see the Hagia Sophia while it was still a museum, because I don't think that's going to be possible again for a while.

I believe people are still allowed to visit outside of prayer times.

I did tour the Blue Mosque as well so obviously you can get into real mosques, but nonetheless converting the Hagia Sophia into one is going to be a step back

The EU in general needs to be careful, mass immigration with people who have of ideals that do not match yours can quickly flip the script.

There's a lot of reasons why Turkey isn't a fully secular country (and even arguments as to whether "secularism" is even a sensical concept outside the West/Christianity), but in this case it's not unusual for secular countries to weigh in on the interests of the powerful religious institutions in their countries. The United States has always played handmaiden to the various Evangelical missionary organizations that operate out of here in Asia and Africa, including weighing in on efforts by the target countries to curtail missionaries from fomenting internal political unrest or interfering in their domestic politics. But we still characterize it as a secular country. It's kind of a gray area, states are obligated to protect their citizenry and organizations that operate under them. So they're functionally operating as safeguarding their citizens' interests in the same way we'd say they ought to be involved to protect environmental or labor activists.

If something happens in India, Canadian PM will make sure to make a comment to support the Sikh community.

Erdogan will flex his muscles about this for sure. He would have done it regardless, but it certainly gives him more ammunition
