War isn’t Hell. War is war, and Hell is Hell. And of the two, war is a lot worse [there are no innocent bystanders in hell].

The counterargument to this is that everyone who doesn't accept Jesus Christ as their lord and savior goes to Hell, assuming this guy is Christian. Including people from non-Christian nations, good or bad, young or old. In fact, everyone dies eventually. So every non Christian goes to hell eventually. War sometimes has people who escape or survive. The ones who don't, go to hell. The ones who survive, go to hell later.
I'm not Christian, but I was saved, so I'm good. I wasn't raised Christian, but when I was a kid an aunt dragged me to a revival meeting at a football stadium, and at the end the preacher said "Come down onto the field of you want to be saved!" So I went down. So I've got that whole hell thing out of the way. No need to fuss or change anything else. I'll just save everyone right now. I'm a pastor, and I say everyone goes to heaven. Solved.
Yeah I don’t want to nitpick this too much considering it’s a quote from MASH, it’s not exactly very serious and the intent is just “war bad”. But the degree to which you believe this to be true really depends on how much you believe whatever religion the hell in question belongs to (probably Christian given demographics but Christian denominations vary wildly in what they believe as well) has truly just definitions for sin.
I mean, by the traditional Christian belief, everyone in the Israeli-Palestine conflict is going to hell since none of them accept Jesus as their lord and savior. Including the children. And then they suffer eternally. Which seems worse than war.
Hindu hell is a much better system. If you're a dick you go to hell and suffer for a while, then start a new life and try again until you get things figured out.
In mechanics, sure. Christian and islamic hells tend to, uh, be somewhat difficult to reconcile around, which leads to the myriad interpretations.
That being said, "being a dick" includes things like "if you're born as an untouchable and touch a brahmin you reincarnate straight to hell", which doesn't particularly jive with modern sensibilities around "crimes" and being "bad".
Yeah, that's true. There's a lot of bad things about Hinduism just as with any other rigid belief system.
Touch a what now? I know Hindus like their cows, but that's a bit much, isn't it?
/s, slightly obviously.
Sorry for posting a link to a "social media" platform but I thought it was kind of funny in a dark way.
You ever watch MASH? There's a few things in it which haven't aged well, but overall it is a fantastic show. It also has one of the best ending episodes of any television show ever imo.
