Racism in the USA is higher among white Christians than among the nonreligious. That's no coincidence

I can't say this was an unexpected result. We're talking about institutions that were built when slavery was legal and had come up with religious reasoning to support the practice. The Bible itself has several passages supporting slavery. Southern Baptists in particular should know that one of the driving reasons why they split from the Baptists was because of disagreements about slavery - you can guess what side they were on.

Organized, heirarchal religion has frequently been a tool of oppression, either directly as a theocracy or indirectly as justifying the actions taken by a country. America just took it to new heights.

I mean, yeah, Christianity is older than the US. But Christianity as practiced by Americans is largely of a type that was created during the early days of the country. The largest most obvious ones are Southern Baptists, Mormons, and Jehovah's Witnesses*, but there are certainly more.

        * It seems like the JW church was founded shortly after slavery was abolished.

But the Abrahamic religions are all born from a time where slavery was rampant and accepted. I'm also reminded of this quote from Bo Burnham's Rant (which @Algernon_Asimov might appreciate as well):

It's too early in the morning glory
          To read another allegory story
The father, reads a little bit farther
Assuring the assured that they need not bother
"When God, in verse 45, said the slaves are okay to buy
He meant that people, all from the start
Each have slaves within their hearts
Things, that we have sold or boughten, that are forced to pick our moral cotton
God calls us to set these free, free our hearts from slavery"
And then as God goes on to explain the logistics of buying and selling slaves...

A lot of the abolitionist arguments about how the Bible doesn't endorse slavery are like that..."It's not really endorsing slavery because back then slaves would be freed after 7 years"

The abolitionists were also able to rely on the Bible for their calls to abolish slavery in the USA (EDIT: And the UK). That's the beauty of the Bible: no matter what you believe in, you can find something in that collection of writings to support your point of view.
