I love Ohio. Our leadership is fucking stupid and the gerrymandering in this state is horrible. It makes it hard to be proud of being from Ohio. This is one of the few times I look around and think - we made the right choice.

Also, fuck you DeWine. Fuck you Gym Jordan and oh fuck you Bill Seitz. You are from Cheviot. You are from Cincinnati you clown. All of you are useless hate filled bigots who are useless in providing you constituents with useful legislation.

Alright. I'm done. Apologies for my rant.

Same states that are banning children from seeking medical care (in this case about gender identity counseling and treatment) because 'they're children' and can't possibly handle the adult decision making are rushing to overturn laws prohibiting or limiting minors from being employed, often in dangerous conditions like meat packing plants.

Can someone please ELI5 how this works?

They are opposed to children and adults receiving gender affirming health care because it defies God's plan for creation. They also lick corporate boots and want to provide cheap labor.

It works because logical consistency isn't required. It's the same with like raising the age of consent or age or marriage laws. Oh, teenagers can't decide to transition because they're too young....

It works because logical consistency isn't required. It's the same with like raising the age of consent or age or marriage laws. Oh, teenagers can't decide to transition because they're too young. But sex and marriage at 13 is A-OK; they're definitely able to consent and understand those! And same with the work situation like you're saying.

      It's ridiculous.

I think there is actually logical consistency. Because they're not OK with pre-marital sex. They are however ok with forcing (because once again, not able to consent) a marriage on a pregnant teen because that solves the problem: the premarital part. There remains no actual care or concern for the teen's autonomy, their mental health or their ability to consent. In the same way that teen workers are only valued for what their bodies give to society, so is the pregnant teen only valued for what their body can provide.

To be clear, it's abhorrent. I just think they're being fully consistent in their abhorrent beliefs.

It's not just about what their bodies can provide, though it certainly includes that. The premarital part is important. They want kids roped into a religiously framed web of obligations. In short,...

The premarital part is important. They want kids roped into a religiously framed web of obligations. In short, they want to force young people to subject themselves to the government of religion, because to them, everything must serve the ends of religion. As I've said elsewhere, religion serves no one but itself and whoever is high in its own hierarchy.

I also love the "we can't let children make permanent changes to their body, so instead were going to just try to rush them through this puberty thing"

St.louis is still held hostage by the GOP state. WashU is losing and not gaining new people for their Trans clinic.
