So, I hate posting downers here but I felt like this can be helpful to understand for ourselves and to debunk the lies that have already been spread by some of the worst anti-trans people out there.
Be safe
Thank you for being you!!
The way the first thing I ever heard about it was right wing news media spread the lie that the bullets had "transgender messaging" carved into them. I was like "the fuck does that even mean?".
Turns out when your readers think that transgender people are a political hate group against your shit beliefs that everyone but you and your willing, silent trad wife, should not have the right to live an open life, you can just say any vague lie without further need to define what the fuck you mean and they will just eat it up and further spread it.
Not a single person of their target group asked for any clarification or even tried to define what that means themselves. "Transgender messaging". That was the whole thing. That was enough.
My face when it then turned out it was actually right wing online groups meme texts against the groups they tried to pin it on.
Still waiting for the talk of denying gun sales to young white men from republican families.
We know they won't. We know the targeting of trans folks is just hatred built on bullshit and lies.
That's definitely not what the statistics show.
As a heads up, and with some actual corroboration at this point given the arraignment today, there's more of an indication that the alleged shooter was (is? Like I assume they're not now?) dating a trans person and had been leaning more left at least on lgbtq issues, though the messaging on the bullets was described as basically all memes. I will be surprised if he wasn't in the right wing shitposting spaces still based on the memes he used and Fuentes' response but ultimately this thread is me being worried about impact to the community. None of this changes the core of the above article either.
The language being used now is still pretty vague in sources like the NYT, I suspect in part because the partner in question isn't talking to the media but is cooperating with police. It's possible this evidence is also bullshit, but it's being reported now from reputable outlets, much as I hate the times, I'd feel remiss not adding it.
Texts From Suspect in Charlie Kirk Shooting Offer Insight Into a Motive
The delays and misinformation took some of the wind out of their sails, and forced them to redirect anger mostly towards people saying "mean things" about the victim. But it could certainly come back around. Be careful with what you post, where you post it, so far the blowback has been getting fired, but I wouldn't be on there being no escalation with the various sites out there and trans folks are going to remain targets.
I'm here for it. The trash heap of the autocracy supporting right is on full display for everybody to witness and I'm happy to see the accounting.
