Catherynne M. Valente is an author I enjoy and she shares this lovely (non-fictional) story on her patreon about how her pup Velveteen is making her way home to her

Thank you for posting this! I really do think so many of us want to help, somehow, someone... It's a nice reminder that asking for help is giving people an opportunity to act on that.

This was great, and it makes me want to check out her fiction writing. Any recommendations?

She's probably best known for her Fairyland stories with the first being The Girl who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making.

And if you want to try some short fiction (I've read some but I don't actually know which ones off the top of my head) here's a list of them (the website looks questionable but this is my secret source for finding my favs short stories.

    Wow, how beautiful!

Because if you look at something a little differently, something you really thought you knew and understood, and try to remember believing in things and in people, just one little shift can change sadness into happiness.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this breath of magic and connection blowing some light under the door in this dark, uncertain time. I will never forget this. Neither should you.

It's all just us. The internet, the world. It's just us, and if we choose to, in the tiniest ways, we can choose to keep our focus on each other instead of wherever it is the money men want us to look this week.
Maybe sometimes the tiny ways are all we have. Just because they're tiny doesn't mean they don't matter.

    Tiny adds up.

I definitely relate to the feeling of losing optimism and hope over the years. The seeming inevitable downward spiral of our society into our baser instincts has really taken a toll on my psyche, so it's really nice to read about how good people still exist, and they're still trying.

There are so many things we can't fix about the world, but there is real power in not walking past a problem that you can fix. Not to be too mystical about it, but I often feel like there is a still small voice that says, "pay attention to this, this is your time." I try to be open to that feeling, and some of the most rewarding things in my life have come about because of it.
