Speaking about Texas’s DEI bill, one chair noted it “sends a message [that] we’re not an inclusive environment.”

As someone in academia this is such a sad situation. Finding a lab that fits your research interests and has a good environment or as a PI, building one up, is incredibly difficult already. It’s no easy feat to pickup and move like that as faculty, or to luck into another great lab as a trainee, so the fact that some are doing so should be a massive alarm. The rough part is that for the universities and departments their hands are so tied. And politicians don’t care. I can this having some additional negative ripple effects down the road. My heart goes out to those in this situation, I really don’t know what I would do if I was in their shoes.
