it is simply wrong to confuse condemning antisemitism with ignoring the plight of the Palestinians

Just as it's wrong to confuse condemning the actions of the state of Israel with anti-Semitism.

Most of the examples cited in the article are no doubt anti-Semitic, but I personally am quite weary of this label being applied to anyone who dares to be critical of Israel. Clearly, the situation is not so black and white, and it is perfectly possible to view Israel as a “murderous, genocidal settler state” (to lift a quote from the article) yet also view the recent actions of Hamas as abhorrent and to recognise that a government's actions do not justify discrimination against citizens.

Ya know what I've been seeing the last few weeks? That the anglo sphere is much more pro-palestine, almost pro hamas at times, while in german online communities, the opposite is true, and support of Israel is widespread, though not unconditional. People will absolutely criticize Israel, but there's a general acknowledgement that they have a right to self-defense. Plus there's an acknowledgement that Israel's existence is non-negotiable.

      My perception anyway.

I think this is skewed by being online. The USA at least is much more pro-Israel in general. It’s activists on the internet who are the opposite.

Netanyahu has done so much harm to Israelis, and Hamas keeps giving him fuel. They both need to go. It's been my observation that many are seeing the gobsmacking display of oppression and harm to Palestinians and the utter lack of compassion world powers have shown to what's happening in Gaza and the West bank for decades, and people are demanding this stop. This kind of furor is always preyed upon by those with ill intention. Netanyahu has successfully drowned the injustice that occurred against Israelis with his own injustices against the innocents in Gaza. This has been truly nightmarish to watch unfold.

Obviously, you are not, and that is very clearly not what is suggested by the post you are replying to.

To which part of blindmikey's post are you referring? I don't see any part of it that says you are "to blame for the actions of a country not [your] own."

Zionism is strongest among American Jews. This violence is the logical conclusion of Zionist rhetoric. No serious person thinks the average American Jew is at fault for the genocide of the Palestinian people, but criticism of a settler-colonialist apartheid state is not antisemitism as this article blithely tries to say.

If you want to support policies that result in the suffering of millions of children that's your prerogative. But don't cry antisemitism when people tell you in no uncertain terms to go fuck yourself and the horse you rode in on.

I'm going to go have some watermelon.

An oft-repeated mantra among some is that Israel is a settler colonialist country and should be forced to give the land back to the Palestinians. I have no idea how it would be determined who is rightly entitled to what land, but I do know that calling for the total elimination of Israel is antisemitic.

I have no doubt that there has been an uptick in actual antisemitism as of late and that is of course to be opposed and should be talked about, but go fuck yourself. The author says criticism of Israel isn't necessarily antisemitic, but I guess that stops applying if the criticism goes beyond what they agree with.

The Israeli ethnostate should not exist. That is not a comment on the Jewish people in any way, shape, or form. They of course deserve to be safe and innocent Israelis (as well as Jewish people elsewhere) are not responsible for the actions of that government. If holding that position is antisemitic in your eyes then yes, you have defined criticism of the state out of possibility.
