Honestly I'm getting tired of how often I'm reminded that the US is garbage for new parents compared to other countries. And politicians wonder why our birthrate is declining. Make it attractive...

Thing is, Finnish birthrates are also declining, along with most nations globally. Birthrate lowering seems to be as universal as climate change, and far harder to fight.

The US actually has a higher birthrate than Finland, and last I checked, by quite a margin. The cost of the baby is a big factor, but others - especially the cost of housing - are more significant...

The cost of the baby is a big factor, but others - especially the cost of housing - are more significant imo. Here in Honolulu, the step up from a 2 bedroom apartment to a 3 bedroom house can be over a thousand dollars in some districts... and that's enough to make kids an impossibility for a lot of people.
