Recently I finished up a run of Diablo 2, and it just so happened that one of my favorite folks put out a lengthy, detailed analysis. I've always enjoyed Noah Caldwell Gervais for his thoroughness and originality - dude can certainly crank out a good quote like it's second nature.
I particularly enjoyed this one because it's a good way of understanding a series that I feel often is oversimplified. There's a lot in Diablo, more than just clicking monsters. You will click a lot of monsters, but especially by D2 there was a complex, interesting set of ways to grow and become stronger. The change after D2 was one of the first examples of enshittification (imo), that came about at a time before we had that word. Understanding how this particular series changed with time, I think is decently illustrative of how a new business model can undermine the product. Sure, each Diablo is more successful than the last, that's something, but as Noah puts it, they aim today for a sort of engagement that isn't nearly as fulfilling. It really was the case that Blizzard was on top of the world for a time, and their shift toward monetizing just about every aspect of play felt a whole lot like getting shafted.
It's also a bit sad, that D4 appears to be a real continuation but is undermined by its endgame/monetization. I've seen Noah's opinion mirrored in how a lot of others talk about it - that the campaign feels like a proper evolution of the concept, but it is presented almost as a tutorial for a world of endless treadmills that turns some folks off.
Thankfully, these days there's plenty variety and of course, D2 Resurrected, which in my opinion is a pretty incredible product. Both because it's a faithful remake and because it's not been gutted for the sake of further monetization.
All you have to do is start. by @LifeOfRiza
Life of Riza's videos give me nostalgia for Casey Neistat at the peak of his daily vlog series.
She's able to use incredible cinematography and great storytelling skills to elevate what could otherwise be a boring video of her engaging in the mundanity of working on her house.
A Yuzu Post-Mortem: The Great Emu-War, Pt. 2 by @MoonChannel
A lawyer provides a legal analysis of the suit that Nintendo brought against Tropic Haze LLC., developers of the the Nintendo Switch Emulator Yuzu:
2023 was a Terrible Year to Look for a Publisher.... (and 2024 is Worse) by @Noclip
Noclip, video game documentarians, have been developing a video game in effort of documenting parts of development that are otherwise hard to shine a light on.
In this video, they discuss their struggles looking for a publisher for their video game during 2023.
Good summary of the Yuzu situation. I was always floored and intensely annoyed with Tropic Haze over their various clear mistakes and how they carelessly set Nintendo up for a few bucks.
Maybe I missed it, or he goes over the clause in the Dolphin video, but I was hoping for an explanation of why the exception specified in 1201(f) doesn't apply. Dolphin described this in their post about what happened to Dolphin on Steam here. It basically says that circumventing the technological measures (violations described by 1201(a)) is permissible for the purpose of interoperability unless the circumvention amounts to a DMCA violation. I presume it's that "unless" comes into play in this case since the argument for piracy was pretty strong, but is that it?
"Let's talk about queue. That sound's already the first letter, so what's with the extra ueue?"
So many brilliant lines in that song! I am way behind on Cats Does Countdown seasons, so hadn't seen that yet. Thanks for sharing! :P
The plural of mouse is “mice.” The plural of house is “houses.”
A semi-detached house is basically two houses with a shared wall.

They're super common in the UK, especially in housing estates, but not all that uncommon in the US and even here in Canada too.
Follow up to the original Pete Whittaker vs STORROR, Climber vs Parkour (1v7) - Last man hanging video:
Climber vs Parkour rematch - Last man hanging
STORROR actually stood a realistic chance against Pete this time thanks to the "secret weapon" special guest on their team... Magnus Midtbø (another pro climber). :P Although the other new additions, Hazal Nehir and Stanislava Kirilova did an amazing job too.
cc: @rosco, hopefully this means more Magnus/Wide Boyz/STORROR collabs are incoming since Magnus is finally back visiting the UK again.
The last man hanging video is insane!!!! I can't believe what a nut Pete is! Thanks for sharing, excited to check out the other Magnus video.
LOL, yeah Pete is nuts. Did you see his hands afterwards? Goddamn that looked painful! And he had a climbing trip the next day! Dude is too competitive for his own good sometimes. Good on Magnus for offering him an honorable out for it though, otherwise I have no doubt he would have totally ruined his hands for his climbing trip out of sheer stubbornness and his insane drive to win at any cost. :P
Yeah! I found it so interesting that his skin gave in before his muscles.
I was actually wondering if Magnus was reaching his limit and to some degree that was a little bit of saving face for him as well. Imagine if Pete hung for over an hour and Magnus dropped after 25 minutes, wouldn't look to great for him. In any case what an awesome piece. I think the biggest shoutouts go to Hazel and Stanislava, those were crazy numbers for non-climbers!!!
Yeah, Pete's muscle recovery is genuinely inhuman. The fact that he could just give each individual arm a quick rest and good shake to get it back to working order, and keep that up for over an hour of hanging is absolutely crazy. He should get himself studied by scientists. And I'm not even joking about that. That's some Lance Armstrong levels of lactic acid immunity and pain tolerance.
Eh... Magnus is a pretty humble and ego-free guy, so I don't think that was his primary concern. I think he was genuinely worried that Pete would ruins his climbing trip if not given an honorable out. Although if Pete hadn't taken the offer, I'm not entirely sure Magnus would have been able to win... so maybe that was a small part of the reason for it. :P
