This'll seem minor to any Americans reading, but it's always a relief to see Brendan Gleeson in a film because it generally means you're going to hear genuine Irish accents for once and not a bunch of Hollywood Oirish.

I mean, Hollywood made Jamie Dornan do a fake Oirish voice and he had to hide his actual Irish accent to do it. Really takes you out of it.

Ditto! I only somewhat recently saw In Bruges and was absolutely smitten with it. If this is even half as good it'll be a winner!

If you guys like In Bruges, and I assume Martin McDonagh's other films (?), I can definitely recommend reading (or seeing) his plays as well. The Lieutenant of Inishmore, The Beauty Queen of Leenane and The Pillowman are probably my favourites, but I would say that all of them are worth checking out.

Although I must also say that his latest, A Very Very Very Dark Matter, left me scratching my head. Not quite sure what to think of that one.

Yeah, I have also seen Seven Psychopaths and Three Billboards. They were both very good, but didn't quite have the same magic as In Bruges, which is one of my all-time favorite movies. I had no idea McDonagh was a playwright too though, but it makes total sense given how great he is at dialogue, so I will have to check those plays out. Thanks for the recommendations!

I agree, In Bruges was an almost perfect mixture of what makes McDonagh brilliant. I knew him first as a playwright (his first plays were produced in the 90s) and I would say that from his films, it's In Bruges that most resembles his early plays like The Lieutenant of Inishmore.

I've felt that his later films have tried to break away from the mold that he created with the early plays and with In Bruges, just like his later plays have. Which I can definitely understand, since an artist needs to grow, and also as someone who has been following his career before his first film, I'm not sure how many Inishmores and Bruges I would want to watch and read either. He maybe already got everything out of the genre that there is to extract. So, from that point of view his other films have been very interesting and exciting.

Having said that, the trailer of the new film looks like a return to earlier themes and styles, and I am very excited about this. So, probably the answer to how many Bruges and Inishmores I could still watch is: many.
