I always enjoy these kinds of comparisons, and that is a good one, making a good point. At the same time, deep down in my mind, there's always the thought "Yes, of course it's wrong, it's fiction". And then I am reminded that a lot of people take historical fiction and cinebiographies way too seriously, so yeah, it makes sense for real historians to get a little pissed.

We are both sometimes writers. In your opinion is it possible to draft a compelling script based on war as attrition? I have also read the saying logistics wins wars and I believe it to be true....

I have also read the saying logistics wins wars and I believe it to be true. It would likewise be difficult to turn the logistics side of war into a fascinating story IMHO.

That said, its hard to make a movie about a leader about logistics. Most of our famous 'military leaders' aren't quartermasters.

Some of the best scenes from the tv comedy MASH were about supply. The clerk Radar O'Reilly would trade items on the black market.

Right but Radar's antics would be hard to make a gripping period drama about. I'm not bashing the quartermaster's corp and there's a lot to explore there but it would be hard to make a movie about...

Yes, absolutely, you can. I am not very knowledgeable about war movies or military fiction (I'm more into war documentaries), so I don't have any examples off the top of my head, but I know this was done before. It might resemble more of a thriller or even a drama to some people. So not exactly what the average viewer expects from a "war movie", even though it is. And it would be on a different budget bracket. @cloud_loud usually knows that stuff!

EDIT: I remember one, but not a movie. I think HBO's The Pacific is a war of attrition. It's excellent. And I know there are multiple movies about the siege of Stalingrad.

The Imitation Game may be a good enough movie about wars from a different perspective, but it was such a gross misrepresentation of Alan Turing and his life that I can't feel anything positive...
