checks article: Holy crap it is literally releasing on my birthday. This movie is my birthday present.

Project Hail Mary is one of the few sci-fi books I can actually imagine concentrating down into a 2~ hour movie fairly well. I imagine they'll cut a lot of the flashback filler and just focus on the spaceship stuff. I'm also making a prediction that they're going to give Rocky an autotune computer voice pretty soon after meeting him instead of doing the whole "learning the language" thing since that arc took a while in the book.
I'm hopeful for this movie, it's a fun book and should translate well to the screen
I hope not, I loved the language learning subplot. Although as a programmer, it was pretty risible to get to the part where Ryland was like "I literally barely know anything about how computers...

whole plot point of the main character being a complete coward
were the weakest parts of the entire book for me. I wouldn't mind it being totally cut to be honest.

I'm tentatively optimistic. I'm really looking forward to seeing how they depict Rocky, counterbalanced by how much I genuinely dislike the human MC. I get the feeling Weir felt the need to...

I get the feeling Weir felt the need to compensate against the criticism that the hero in The Martian was too perfect, but everything about the PHM MC grated me the wrong way. Still looking forward to it, though. :)
I am reading right now and the book is really good. Last time I felt like this with a book was with Rendezvous with Rama. The only thing I don't like is the Murica super strong vibe it gives in...

The only thing I don't like is the Murica super strong vibe it gives in the flashbacks. It is the usual USA propaganda, but it always makes me roll me eyes.
I'm not sure how far you are into the book, but I think it does a fine job at balancing out the world powers to be honest. China and Russia play key roles in the story and are portrayed as...

I liked how his lack of courage explained a significant plot point. It was nice seeing all the pieces fall into place.

They all obey Stratt, which is American.
But yeah, it's not something that makes me think the book is bad, it's just a nitpick. I love the book.
Stratt is Dutch, worked for ESA, and was assigned the admin job by the UN.
Oh! Maybe something lost in the translation to Portuguese Brazilian or I missed it.
Probably the second one.
Stratt wasn't American haha, I think you missed some details! I hope this improves the book for you.
We will be discussing it for Tildes book club in about two months. Come join us then.
I loved this book and am so excited that it’s being made into a film. I hope Gosling can pull it off and I hope they stay true to the source.
