I've only seen the film, but thought it was good. Is the book good? ^^ I haven't read the book so I don't know how the two compare but yes, the film is incredible!!

I will note that the movie is a bit of an amalgamation of several books, so don't go in expecting to find all the plot you know in either of the two books whose titles got put together for the movie. You will however recognise various characters and sections the movie drew upon.

I would warn that O'Brian goes hard into precise historical naval terminology for sailing ships and their equipment, masts, sails, pumps etc. you have to either have a dictionary ready or read past the words you don't recognize.
The books great! It’s not short, but has good pacing and was easy to follow so it was a pretty fast read. I was in the Navy when I read them though so all the terminology made sense to me.

He worked on training the cast and crew on how to work and operate on a sailing ship, and was present as an extra on a handful of scenes. He had at the time well over a decade of experience working on, and later captaining, a recreation sailing ship.
He had some fun stories about going out drinking with Russell Crowe.

One of my friends favorite movies. I'm curious how he'll take the news. It's a shame we never got more, as it really was a great setting/story.
I've only read the book, but thought it was good. Is the first movie good?

I have a buddy that worked on and in the original 2003 film. I wonder if he'll find work with this one too.
What did he do?
