The book is a really fun, but dark read. It’s Stephen King, so the less you know going in, the better in my opinion. The movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger was also great fun, but a completely different story and experience. It was mind numbing, popcorn eating, 80s action in the best way. My friends and I call them “good bad” movies (so bad they’re good).

This trailer makes it look like the new movie splits the difference, and I don’t really know if it’s in a good way. It keeps the gritty action and dark themes of the first book but there’s no way the plot will cover the same ground needed to make the same impact the book did. On the other side, most of the silliness and fun of the 80s movie looks like it’s missing.

“They sure don’t make em like they used to!!!” Which I guess just means I’m getting old.

Either way its a little funny that with The Long Walk coming out I spoiled The Running Man to my wife since I told her I liked that story better and figured there's no way its getting a remake anytime soon. Oh well. I do think this is the perfect roll for Brolin.

Are we far enough from 9/11 to get the "true" book accurate ending? I saw the plane and thought "oh yes"

At least Ben looks more 'book accurate' in this incarnation, though I'm not certain he looks 'impoverished future dystopia poor person' enough still.

This looks more accurate to the book, and love that little sly throwback to the original movie at 0:24 with Arnold's face on the money. That last scene sealed the deal.
