I say bah humbug to this theory! This is cleverness for cleverness' sake and misses the entire point of the movie: Sometimes the place we need to be the most, is the place where we already are,...

This is cleverness for cleverness' sake and misses the entire point of the movie:

Sometimes the place we need to be the most, is the place where we already are, and sometimes to realize what we have, we have to understand what it means to lose it.

There is a VERY good reason why Clarence gives George a copy of Tom Sawyer at the end of the movie - a book about a boy who thinks he wants to travel and be free like his friend Huck, only to come full circle back to civilization, bringing his newfound friend Huck back with him.
