Zack Snyder's Justice League - Discussion thread
We already have two threads about it, but not one in the "traditional" format with spoilers and all.

Eh, I agree that this movie had a lot to do, but it's not like it used every minute to its advantage. There's a lot of stuff that could (and should) have been cut. Or just sped up.
And not every character needs a solo film to introduce them. Aquaman, sure, but it's not like we need an entire film to know that Flash is fast. Cyborg's story was told sufficiently in this one, in my opinion.
I don't know, I think they could have cut half an hour from this and replaced it with a final battle against Darkseid. Obviously there were sequels in mind at the time this was filmed, but it looks like those aren't happening.
Watched it with my roommates and (at least as someone who really isn't into comic books) it was bad. Not so bad that it was boring, because we had a good time shouting at the screen, but it definitely was not something that you should expect to enjoy for its few good qualities.
The movie is way too long and still ends up feeling rushed at the end. So long is spent setting up the plot and character introductions because they want what marvel has but don't want to put in any of the effort. Its not even something that could have been split into a miniseries because the pacing is so fucked.
The fight scenes are almost good but are kneecapped by the god awful CGI. Not only does it just look like they missed a pass or two of something, but the weight of everything just feels off. Even in the non-action sequences it looks bad. The scene where Batman picks up the Flash and drives off in his car was so janky we had to rewind it just to see it again.
Again, I'm mostly just ranting here, it isn't horrible and can be enjoyed. The only thing really offensive about it is how Snyder somehow thought that it deserved to be 4 hours long. According to my roommates who are far more into comics and that stuff than I am, this is at least an improvement from the theatrical release, so take that as you will.
I thought it was fine. I wasn't really expecting anything, but with suicide squad and the original justice league as my baseline, I was pleasantly surprised. It's no masterpiece, but it's fine for what it is.
I'm going to watch it but first I have to watch eight hours of review content
As someone who never watched Josh JL i can say i found Snyder JL entertaining and good enough, not the best super hero movie but not bad as other people are reviewing. I am not a super hero movie fan but i find it surprising the bad press this movie is portrayed and just because is a Zack Snyder movie or just the circle jerk of hating it for beign Justice League movie.
For context, I've disliked the majority of the DC universe movies. I did enjoy Aquaman and Birds of Prey.
I thought it was a mess. It felt like a four hour assembly cut where none of the fat had been cut out yet. Is it better than the theatrical version? Not really, they both stink. It's like two different attempts that both fail.
This version felt like it took itself way too seriously. I get that Zack Snyder think's it's cool how gritty and serious Batman is but he's a rich dude who runs around in a cape...the concept is, on it's face, not serious. (Though that is the one joke Snyder left in the movie).
The Mother Boxes were just macguffins that existed simply to move the story along. They felt forced and unnatural.
Now, with all that said, I am seriously worried about the precedent this sets for entitled fans. In this case, a small but vocal minority went on a targeted harassment campaign and got rewarded by the studio for it. I worry that other nasty fan bases will see how successful the DC people were and use their tactics in the future.
I'm thinking about posting this as a topic itself but for now I'll leave it here: Commentary Video about Zack Snyder going on a livestream for a super toxic group (they are SUPER anti-sjw but honestly I don't care enough about Geeks and Gamers to find out just exactly how far-right they are because I know as much as needed for this context) that were a big part of the online snyder campaign and seem to worship the dude and Snyder immediately distances himself from them and says he doesn't support them. The reaction was hilarious IMO. I know this doesn't directly address your comment, but I thought of this when you said:
He did this after they helped him achieve his goal and get his version of the film released. It's the equivalent of Twitter kicking Trump off after he was on his way out of office. They served their purpose for him and now he can softly distance himself from them.
Oh yeah. On one hand I can see him genuinely wanting to distance himself from them. As his statement on stream goes, he has an adopted Asian daughter, and in the wake of a terrorist attack against Asian-Americans, he wanted to make it clear where he stands in relation to people like Geeks and Gamers. I don't want to completely give Snyder an out here, but I will say this was him agreeing to go on a charity live stream for mental health as a part of the Snyder Release of Justice League,
trigger warning
the movie he was making when his daughter killed herself.I don't know how much research Snyder did in advance of going on this stream. Obviously enough to want to distance himself from the group. But I can see a world where he initially agreed to go on a charity livestream for his new movie put on by big fans of his, where the charity is a cause he is incredibly passionate about.
All that said, you're right. Snyder is disavowing them after they already helped get his movie made.
I enjoyed it to some degree but got distracted by things like:
I enjoyed it more than I thought I would (wasn't a fan of Snyder's other DC movies). It's an hour too long and there's a whole bunch of stuff in its that doesn't work but it's at least internally consistent. The Whedon cut's attempts to make this universe bright and shiny really did not work, but this is at least the movie it's trying to be.
