Radio Streams! I need more.
I did a fresh install of Foobar2000 for the first time since it came out. I'm rebuilding playlists and figured I'd do some digging for some new ones. My old list had a bunch from somafm, Luxuria, the BBC ones, and a few others. Here's a list of some ones I dug up tonight. If you have any other good ones that are indie, hip hop, jazz, exotica, or really well-curated EDM, list 'em up! Bonus points for direct links to the stream.
- 90.9fm WDCB
- Luxuria Music Radio
- Pigpen Radio (Internet-Radio.com)
- The Current
- Arctic Outpost
my foobar2000 setup with a custom W10 high contrast theme
With the default interface, foobar2000 has some ugly white panels like this. I could patch uxtheme.dll, but its a pain if you forget to restore it before an update kicks in. To get around this, I made my own high contrast Dracula theme, which looks kind of like a UI you'd see on TV.
This system only runs Kodi and Foobar2000. I would recommend this route for anyone who actually wants to use the system due to high contrast themes taking over the entire color scheme for everything.
I posted a similar thread last year, there are some great recommendations there!
oh god. I even replied! I really miss Berlin Community Radio. Its tough to fill the void :)
La Jazz Radio by France Musique is the best! That's a great gem
nice streams you got there. somafm is solid, as is kexp and wwoz.
Here are some more:
I linked directly to the streams.
awesome list! thanks for this!
That's a cool theme you made. Can you share it or give some pointers?
For radio I mostly just flip through SomaFM stuff, they are very reliable if a little repetitive.
yeah! you can customize a high contrast theme then go to
%localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Themes-- make a copy of the theme there. The main section is
Check this Solarized theme -- it also looks great.
It took me a few iterations to get it right, but its all RGB. The main thing for me was toning down the outlines. That color is tied to the TitleText (IIRC) -- it all came together nicely.
Its crazy that W10 didn't come with a proper dark theme that also worked with the classic UI.
As for radio, Soma is the best. Have you ever listened to SF 10-33? Its the police scanner with some reverb and ambient music. Its perfect for white noise.
Look up https://radio.garden, and surf around for a little bit? Can probably find a new favorite.
radio.garden is neat, but there's too much :) I've found a few good stations through there, though.
nice! The tildeverse has so much stuff.
Is it possible to scrobble any of those streams?
hm.. I don't think so. I've seen https://web-scrobbler.com -- but that only works in browsers. I think you'd have to set up some sort of system that listens in every minute for x seconds with Shazam or something.
I wrote some software that can scrobble streams (and get album art and info) here: https://github.com/charmparticle/mpd_what
It has some complex dependencies though, and it will only work if you play music with a music server called mpd, which is in most linux repositories.
