A friend of mine mentioned he got into Hardstyle recently, a genre I loved for a long time, but stepped away from for no real reason. I loaded up the Hardstyle playlist on DI.fm, and the dopamine hit has been real, and very much needed.

My daughter who listens to music with me often also loves it. We're jumping, dancing, and having a blast. I'm glad I can share my love of aggressive noise with her.

The song L.E.S. Artistes by Santigold over and over again. We’ve watched The Mindy Project a bunch of times through, and the song was in it. Did a Yoga workout on Apple Fitness+ that used it a few days ago, and it was familiar (from those watch throughs). Something about it is just really vibing with me, even though the lyrics don’t connect well.

I got really into The Bug. It started as a seed with @EightRoundsRapid posting his album Absent Riddim which I was curious about and got intellectually but not artistically. I found out he had an album on Rephlex Records and was curious how that would sound, which led me down a brief rabbit hole.

I was bored at work and saw a "Dubstep Origins" playlist on Spotify and a bunch of great stuff on it, including a few Bug x Flowdan tracks. His track Skeng was one of them. The production isn't horrible, but definitely sounded like 2008 DIY work, so I went through a couple other things, including London Zoo, which is much cleaner, and an Earth remix he did called "Angels," which was a crossover I hadn't expected.

I've been on a video game soundtrack kick. Oxenfree 2 was the one on repeat this week - calm, melodious synths (with some John Carpenter undertones because it does have some horror/creepy moments). It makes good writing music, too. Favourite track: A Block A Rock A Grave A Cave

I also listened to Mashrou' Leila - indie rock/pop with Arabic lyrics. Sadly, they disbanded in 2022, but their album Ibn El Leil remains one of my all time favourites that I keep relistening to.

I want to start posting regularly in this thread so I'll start by making a small (reverse)chronological list of the things that were on top of my mind for the month of December, with a few words on the unknown stuff I feel like deserves more recognition. I do wish to apologise because I'm generally a horrible writer but I'm trying my best!

    • Tom Petty - Love Is A Long Road - GTA VI Trailer just reminded me how much I love Tom Petty's music and the vibe it gives
    • Weezer - Island In The Sun
    • Hällas - Star Rider - This 70s metal sounding piece from a Swedish prog-rock group is actually from 2017. I absolutely adore this song, it fills me with feelings of joy, sadness, hopelessness and hope at the same time? Above all of that it is also just an earworm, the synth parts and the guitar riffs are just... We have a saying in Romanian for this that sounds incredibly quirky in english but it is "anointing my soul". Honestly recommend anyone to give this a listen just out of curiosity at least.
    • Sting - Shape Of My Heart
    • Chris Cornell - Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart - Ok Chris Cornell is in no way unkown, but I do believe he is deserving of greater acknowledgment. I find especially this piece to be incredibly soul crushing while being just a straight up upbeat song. RIP Chris. For me he is one of my favourite vocalists of all time alongside Myles Kennedy and Eddie Vedder.
    • Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Beat the Devil's Tattoo - Hellboy (2019) was an absolute disgusting pile of bullshit but it did remind me of this brilliant song.

    BONUS!

Mosaika Group - Rubicon (Мозаика Рубикон) https://youtu.be/mwGJTTMSS8A?t=759 - I found this incredibly old vinyl at a friend's house and I fell in love with it. It sounds like a Soviet Deep Purple/Pink Floyd with incredible classic rock and hard rock elements. I don't know the story behind the album or the band but if anyone has any idea I'd love to learn more.

Iv just completed a butthole surfers discog run. I'd never listened to them before so when a friend introduced me to them I had no real idea what to expect. I really enjoyed their stuff. It's the right kinda weird that's easy to get into and they kinda mellow out in their later releases.

Currently doing a melvins run but not sure il go through their entire discography since it's pretty big.

Also got back into the sword and more specifically their acoustic album. Low country. Its such an enjoyable listen and has me thinking I might start listening to some fantasy audio books before bed. I might be an adult but I do still want a story time.
