Excerpt from article, which sums the situation up:

“This is disgraceful. They’ve completely wiped the MTV News archive,” longtime Rolling Stone senior writer Brian Hiatt commented. “Decades of pop culture history research material gone, and why?”

Last week, Paramount Global’s CMT website similarly pulled its repository of country-music journalism dating back several decades.

Reps for MTV did not respond to requests for comment Monday.

If it was still supposedly easily accessible online, why would it have not been archived?

Some observers noted that MTV News articles may be available through internet archiving services like the Wayback Machine, but according to Hiatt older MTV News articles do not show up via Wayback Machine.

If it was still supposedly easily accessible online, why would it have not been archived?

I did that coming to America thing in the late 80s and there was nothing like MTV in my country.

Kurt, Tabitha and John were the icing on the music cake and as they delivered ‘news’. It was as repulsive to Boomers then as it is today as the kids getting their ’news’ from TikTok.

Perhaps we are entering a second period of things not being and floating away? https://www.britannica.com/event/Dark-Ages

It’s been happening for a while with movies and tv shows. BBC used to reuse film. Studios in Hollywood burned down, taking the only copies of nobody seems to know how many movies with them.

Not that this would've help in mtv news' case, but it certainly would have made some difference in your example.
