My existential crisis playlist

So, tonight as I was putting my young kid to bed, they listed every one of the places that they desperately want to go to, but can't. It broke me. This playlist is very much still a work in progress, but if you've been curious how things sound in my head when I'm working through some shit, it's a lot like this.

Videos were selected when possible, and I'm going to warn you: There's a ton of depressing shit in these videos. If you can't handle real videos of violence right now, I'd suggest moving on.

This playlist is best paired with a strong drink, deep feelings of sadness and anger, and a dash of mental instability.

Existential Crisis Playlist

  1. Prophets of Rage - Hail to the Chief
  2. KMFDM - Paradise
  3. WAKRAT - Generation Fucked
  4. Straylight Run - Hands in the Sky
  5. Alexisonfire - Sharks and Danger
  6. A Perfect Circle - So Long, And Thanks For All The Fish
  7. Pink Floyd - Mother
  8. William Shatner - You'll Have Time
  9. Monty Python - Galaxy Song

Somehow I find the Galaxy Song kind of cheerful, and it's been years since I listened to it, so thanks for that!

That is actually the intent...Let loose the rage, get lost in your head, get it together, and cheer up. I have a hard rule about one band per playlist, otherwise it would likely be a lot longer.

Shame, because Monty Python has quite a few that make me laugh and/or cheer me up when I'm down. Warning though, some are very NSFW. ;) Always Look on the Bright Side of Life Lumberjack Song Sit...

Aye, but that's all the more reason to create new playlists. I generally try to stick to that rule and to keep a playlist around album-length, unless for a special purpose (curating like a DJ for a road trip). Also the inverse is fine: creating your own best-of album for a given artist.

Big fan of most of your list. I highly recommend the Bo Burnham and Tim Minchin specials on Netflix for anybody who hasn't seen them...most of those songs are from that.

And if you like Bill Bailey's music, Black Books is a must-watch. It bounces around different streaming services periodically, but I think it's currently on Amazon Prime.

Additionally, a lot of the Flight of the Conchords stuff I linked was from their self-titled TV show, which I also highly recommend as well.

Paradise is great. KMFDM really didn't pull any punches on that one in particular. The album is good for dealing with everything going to shit.

I honestly didn't really get into KMFDM until hearing Paradise, and I kinda worked my way back from there.
