This new album may be up to par with his earlier content, but his path along the way has made him lose credibility as an artist to many. That’s not to say he isn’t a talented artist.

I finished listening to it like two hours ago, I honestly think it’s really good. The production is superb and feels kinda like a mixture of Yeezus and The Life of Pablo. Very atmospheric but also industrial, which is something I’m always a fan of and like to incorporate into my own music as well. I think the lyricism was pretty good as well, and that’s something I really miss from rap as it’s not really present in most artists these days (not to sound like a boomer lol). Overall I’d give it a solid 8/10, not sure if I have a favorite track yet but I really love God Breathed.
the first chunk of this album is excellent. It dipped down a bit, but I'm on Jesus Lord and its picking up again. I'm not a big Kanye fan or anything, but I'm really enjoying this. edit! Universal...

edit! Universal released it without Kanye's approval! The drama continues!
Universal put my album out without my approval and they blocked Jail 2 from being on the album.
I love all of the chaos around this release. haha Even if he released it himself, there'd be something to complain about --- possibly the first record with versioning and changelogs.

I don't think anyone has ever done that. For a while David Bazan was doing new music every month and it was awesome. Some of the songs were rerecorded differently for Blanco a few months after...

Today I was listening (inattentively) to a podcast that was talking about something written by Ted Chiang that involved a culture with oral histories. A youth discovered writing and through that had a conflict with his elders over what was true, with a distinction between truths that are "right" vs "precise".
One of the things that struck me was when they brought up how the Odyssey wasn't written for ~400(?) years. It was just something that was tumbling around getting refined in the aether of what people found compelling. It would be cool to see more of that sort of experimentation in the music scene.

Most? Disagree. I think hip hop fans can think of his antics as clowny but still appreciate the artistry.

Of course there would be drama even after the album is out, typical Kanye lol

Lol yeah the album is definitely being edited as we speak.

*(thank you for listening to my TedChiang talk)
Wasn't that his other album, The Life of Pablo? The one of "Ima fix wolves" fame?
seems like Kanye has a pattern building :)
