I wanted to post this in the hopes to inspire some people in the US to go out and protest against the hostile government takeover that is happening in your country.
I can't shake this feeling that people are paralyzed and/or in denial about what's happening, so I would also like to open a discussion on why that is and what you think could be done about it.
My personal observation is that we have been divided and misguided by a barrage of misinformation. What can we do to come back together? If we keep going like this we all know dark times are looming.
Edit: Also another reminder that a general strike is being planned but needs A LOT more support: https://generalstrikeus.com/
Did you see the protests yesterday? It's starting. I have some physical health issues that make most protests a risky choice for me. Also, people who read the news and think ahead are rightly very...

I have some physical health issues that make most protests a risky choice for me.
Also, people who read the news and think ahead are rightly very upset about Trump and Musk, but for effective mass protests, the pain has to hit people who tend to be tuned out.
A lot of people think that court cases or midterm elections will solve the problem.
There is still a lot of American exceptionalism that impedes recognition of the scope of the problem and the level of danger. There are also people who believe that Trump is providing what they need or what the country needs and are willing to accept 'tradeoffs'.
Myself, my wife, my two kids and my brother and sister were there. I've been very anxious lately, but going really helped with that. It might not accomplish much, but it felt like we were doing...

Weirdly, it made me a little teary eyed a few times. Seeing all these people participating in something other Americans have participated in through the past and also knowing I'm not alone was just endearing.
I work for a "save the world" sort of place already; the fed would kill funding to if they had the choice. Would it be helpful to do a general strike at a place like that? What sort of message...

I'm in the same boat and one where I am "the man". Trying to figure out if giving our team the day off is helpful so they can participate in political action (or not if they choose not to). Or if...

I read the book Skid Road (by Murray Morgan) a few months ago, which is about the first hundred years of Seattle focusing on lesser known people than you normally hear about.
One of the things discussed is a general strike that happened in 1919. In some ways it was wildly successful, the entire city stopped for 5 days. But from what I understand, nothing really changed in a positive way as a result. That book blamed a lack of cohesive demands because there were so many different groups of people involved. I haven't done any further reading on the subject, but it makes sense that demands not made will never be met.
I’m with you, at this point it feels like we are at a stand still because people don’t want the same things. It’s like trying to make a marriage work, when you should really get a divorce. The...

The only unified front I have seen with any type of legs has been the outright support for Luigi Mangione. Perhaps I was in only echo chambers, but I literally could not find a single normal person defending the CEO/UHC or even trying to evoke sympathy past “he was a father”.
I don’t even think we are united on the front of what people want to happen, even with respect to this incident. Do people want single payer health care ? Do people want an end to large corporations, but they are fine with private health care ? Do people want wage increases so they can afford the healthcare but not actually change the system ? Etc. Etc.
Other than a break up or severe restructuring (the irony) of the United States, I don’t see how you rectify such a huge divide in what people want done.
It's interesting how much less useful Teslas are when there are no super chargers around. It's also interesting how leverage works. Like, if you have $100,000, then borrow another $100,000, invest...

It's also interesting how leverage works. Like, if you have $100,000, then borrow another $100,000, invest all 200k, and you experience say...a 50% drawdown...you end up with, oh.....$0?
One could go from very rich and favoured to not so much of either.

Crazy Idea, but what stops you from just going together with your team to a protest in your area?
We're a fully remote company so no one lives the area. I also wouldn't want to put that kind of political or even time mandate on the team, you know?
I'm concerned that the demands haven't been worked out yet

Just sayin'.
