Sure, but I wouldn’t expect them to be self defeating. Maybe they don’t care if the unions are all shut down because they’re getting paid off or something.
I'm afraid I'm not following how supporting any of this would be self defeating for them. A perception of high crime is good for Police budgets, I would think.
Self defeating for the union leaders, not the police. Trump has been cancelling federal union contracts.

This almost never happens.
The optics are terrible, if this were Obama it would be a major scandal, but I don't see anyone in the USA commenting.
We already think Trump's relationship with Putin is somewhere between sycophantic and "far too friendly." It's sort of a "there's just so much to say and also what is there left to say" situation.
His election was not good for Ukraine unless his incompetence (and his staff's incompetence) ends up helping by delaying or frustrating Russian interests. But like... I care, and also am treading water trying to deal with other shit he's doing. I expect we'll keep seeing post-mortems of the "summit" over the weekend and then there'll be some other horrible foreign policy fuck up.
