LIVE: 2 people hospitalized after shooting involving federal agents in Portland | kgw.com

Not a lot of information yet. Will update as I can.

Portland police said their officers were called to 102nd and Southeast Main Street at about 2:20 p.m., where they said they confirmed federal agents were involved in a shooting.

In a statement shortly after the shooting was confirmed, Mayor Keith Wilson said that a day after that shooting that "Portland is now grappling with another deeply troubling incident."

"We cannot sit by while constitutional protections erode and bloodshed mounts. Portland is not a "training ground" for militarized agents, and the "full force" threatened by the administration has deadly consequences. As Mayor, I call on ICE to end all operations in Portland until a full investigation can be completed."

It does sound like once again the federal agents fled the scene before local PD arrived. They at least don't seem to be present.

Live updates: Protesters clash with authorities this morning after ICE agent’s killing of woman in Minneapolis | CNN

From CNN, in the live news thread they have about MN.
It's amazing how many Venezuelan gang members there are running around the US. Even children in Chicago.

Border Patrol agent “fired a defensive shot” during vehicle stop in Portland shooting, DHS says

Per another CNN blurb lower down, they're a married couple.

The vehicle’s driver is believed to be a member of the Tren de Aragua gang, while the passenger and target was a Venezuelan migrant “affiliated with the transnational Tren de Aragua prostitution ring and involved in a recent shooting in Portland,” she said.

“When agents identified themselves to the vehicle occupants, the driver weaponized his vehicle and attempted to run over the law enforcement agents,” McLaughlin said in a statement. “Fearing for his life and safety, an agent fired a defensive shot. The driver drove off with the passenger, fleeing the scene.”

Edit: of note, the scanners (posted on the pdxicewatch and other places) show EMS report two gunshot wounds on the man and one on the woman.

      DHS claimed "a defensive shot"
Wanna bet they change that or are they gonna claim the bullet curved as the driver tried to hit the ICE agent or something

Edit: there's no new information tonight, it's earlier in Portland but until/unless footage gets released or the victims speak up ( they may be in surgery for example) even the city PD doesn't have more information apparently.

Funny how much "weaponizing a vehicle" is suddenly a thing when ICE agents want to shoot someone, and nothing like that is happening when peaceful protesters are the ones being hit by drivers.

Why would anyone believe anything they say about this after the lies we just saw them tell.

I've seen more articles being explicit about Good's killing and now this incident rather than the vague "a bullet somehow ended up inside that person after police fired their guns" bullshit.

Maybe there's starting to be a shift

Also, when the people confronting you outnumber you and are all wearing body armor and holding assault rifles... well good fucking luck. Her fate was sealed the moment they approached. There was no choice she could have made to secure a different outcome.

Edit: Ah jeez, this is the thread about Portland, not Minneapolis. Telling that we have not one but two ongoing threads about this shit.

Portland shooting latest: State attorney general says he's opening probe - ABC News

Wanted to add an article that seemed to be a good summary of the situation as of now. Portland is investigating and calling for ICE to stop operating while that continues and for people to remain calm. Nothing super shocking there.

The target of ICE was the passenger/wife and the feds allege they're both gang members who "weaponized" the car against agents. (Who apparently let them go and didn't pursue the vehicle or anything. Sure. )

I don't know why everyone is saying ICE instead of CBP (not you, folk like the mayor). Same basket sure, and they all need to get the fuck out of our cities. But feels worth noting that they are border agents and were operating in a state without a border. What were they doing there?

That said Portland is within 100 miles of the coast and has the Port of Portland including an international airport. CBP has jurisdiction in theory in that area.

For enforcement purposes, the U.S. defines any areas within 100 air miles of the geographical border as part of the border zone. From the American Civil Liberties Union's "Know Your Rights" page:

The federal government defines a “reasonable distance” as 100 air miles from any external boundary of the U.S. So, combining this federal regulation and the federal law regarding warrantless vehicle searches, CBP claims authority to board a bus or train without a warrant anywhere within this 100-mile zone. Nearly two-thirds of the U.S. population, over 213 million people, reside within the region that CBP considers falling within the 100-mile border zone, according to the 2020 census. Most of the 10 largest cities in the U.S., such as New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago, fall in this region. Some states, like Florida, lie entirely within this border band so their entire populations are impacted.

I'm in Michigan, so this is another state that's fully within the warrantless stop-and-search territory that CBP and ICE claim. The entire coastline of the U.S. (which encompasses Portland, OR) as well as land borders is included.

A Congressional bill to restore a more reasonable 10-mile zone around the borders has been stuck in committee since 2019.

Technically, Customs and Border Patrol only has jurisdiction in the border zone while Immigration and Customs Enforcement can operate anywhere in the interior U.S. But Trump 🤷‍♀️🤡💩.
