2025 NFL Season 🏈 Weekly Discussion Thread – Week 4
Welcome to the 2025 NFL Season Weekly Discussion Thread! 🏈
Share your thoughts on Week 4 — wins, losses, fantasy fumbles, predictions, or anything else football-related. Sorry for the delay posting today, I was away from a computer all day and just now have time to post this :)
Highly recommend Jon Bois' 4-part series on scorigami, and we happened to get the 2nd highest scoring scorigami tie just yesterday.
I second that recommendation. Actually, I recommend any Dorktown/Jon Bois video.
Thoughts and prayers to all the Bengals fans out there. Denver put up their best performance of the season and had Buck & Aikman riffing in the second half like it was 1:30am on Inside the NBA. As nice as it was, I don't think wins against this version of the Bengals count for much. Cincy looks to be in a tight battle with Baltimore for this season's "Year from Hell" team.
I'm late to the party, but I've officially secured my seat on the Baker/Bucs bandwagon. I was skeptical of the preseason hype, but they were a couple plays away from beating Philly. I'm having a hard time finding any historical comparisons to Baker's career so far. #1 overall pick -> shakey start -> one solid season -> injury/fall off -> almost out of the league -> journeyman -> career revival as a top-10 QB. He's like a mix between Alex Smith and Vinny Testaverde. I'm happy to see guys like Baker, Darnold, and Jones play well after their careers seemed dead.
I’m a pretty big fan of Baker, at least from when I’ve caught him playing last season and this season.
I think the first 3 games this year all had him leading the Bucs to win in a 2 minute drill, which, while not great, were absolutely a treat to watch as a mostly-neutral.
Dude, the Buck/Aikman banter was actually pretty funny. I enjoyed some of that, lol.
Got up at 6:30 to catch the Vikings play a pretty rough game. I felt a little like this was a reminder that fourth quarter comebacks, while perhaps exciting, usually still fail... some lucky calls and a rebound near the end aren't going to build a season.
It sounds like McCarthy won't be playing until after the bye, which hopefully can be a bit of a fresh start.
Also, not a fan of the guy off the field, but Rodgers just standing back during the tush-push was absolutely fantastic.
I am also not a Rodgers fan, but him standing back during the rush-push, and then later throwing a block, were very funny to me.
Sad panthers noises
The game opened up great, with a methodical, competent march down the field. Then immediately forcing a 3-and-out filled me with so much optimism.
Then the punt return for a TD happened and the wheels fell off the cart almost immediately.
There is no other way of saying it, we got our asses handed to us. After the punt return happened, its like like the team completely forgot how to play this sport in which they are paid well to compete. It's frustrating watching a team that was methodical and at least pretend competent the week before completely implode like this.
Ultimately this does start to beg the question on where do we have to start to fix this? I do know that I'm not impressed by our defensive performance. We have only 2 sacks for the year with an abysmal 7% pressure rate. QBs have an eternity to throw and RBs aren't getting stopped. We are not doing anything well on defense and that means our game managing offense is constantly having to play from behind and that never goes well.
The thing I hate the most is that this soured my ability to enjoy games for Week 4. Now I know we truly suck, I can watch other games easier as I no longer have expectations at all. The bar is low, my only request is that I want to not turn off the game at halftime in disgust. Give me a belief that we might actually compete until the end, even if we do lose. I just dont want to get blown out week after week.
Pats fan here. I can't say this was huge sign of us having our stuff figured out. But we played well and I was pretty pleased with the performance. Some penalties I'd like to see smoothed out for sure.
I'll say I remember over the years the Panthers being a challenge for us. The way I feel about the Dolphins, too. Sorry you guys are in the thick of it right now.
As a Packers fan I can't help but feel the Special Teams woes are returning. I don't know what the statistics say but it felt like they weren't as much of an issue in the past few years vs the Capers/McCarthy era. After looking so strong in the first to games they just came out flat the last two. They're definitely a team that seems to play to the level of the opponent. I was so angry after the Browns game but felt more apathetic after the Cowboys game, it's shaping up to be another season of big talk with little to back it up.
Normally I do not watch much football (my dad and brother do, so I do understand it). But, as I was visiting my parents' on Sunday, my dad started watching the Jaguars vs. 49ers game part way through the 2nd quarter. Shortly after putting it on, there were a few big plays, including an impressive one handed catch by the 49ers and the Jaguars punching the football forcing a fumble. It started to be shaping up to be a good game, so I ended up sticking around and watching it. 49ers had a good momentum after the halftime, and it looked like they would manage to turn the game around and win, you could feel the energy in the crowd shifting, and then they threw an interception and all momentum was lost. Lots of big plays by the Jaguars, but also a lot of flags by the Jaguars.
I would have said Baltimore still has a chance for Playoffs or Wild Card but if Lamar isn't back by the bye, its over. Their schedule gets easy for a bit after the Rams, but if he's not there...
I don't know how to feel about that Cowboys/Packers game.
