This immediately made me think of the great New York Times piece, Snow Fall: The Avalanche at Tunnel Creek. If I recall correctly (and sorry if I butcher this), but one of the main themes of the article is that, every single member of this group was a competent backcountry skier who knew the risks avalanches pose. They each likely knew that it was a dangerous day to be out but the "stoke" of the group kept each individual from raising their hand to stop the group or remove themselves from the situation.

Most CRMs track spam reports for the sender to view. This data does include the specific person who reported spam, which would indicate to the sender that the recipient email is active and accomplish the same goal as the false unsubscribe link mentioned above. I'm not sure if this can be disabled on the receiver's account.

I use Thunderbird which blocks remote content by default so the server doesn't even get data on whether or not I've opened it. I created a list that immediately deletes emails from addresses that I add to it.

The best way to get off these lists would be to send a bounce response back to the sender, but I'm not sure if that's possible. Universal bounce lists exist, so this could (unlikely, but theoretically could) stop you from getting emails that you actually want.

Edit: I looked it up and, for Gmail, it does seem to be possible to create your own bounce template, but it won't look like the official one Gmail uses, so I guess it depends on the sender whether or not they'd pay attention to (or even have the capability to track) the non-official one.

I saw your other comment, that's awesome you're competing! What are those meets like? Is it always scored on the three lift total (bench/squat/dead) or are there individual competitions / podiums for each lift?

Tried the garage gym for a year because I hated how few bench presses and squat cages they had at our rec center. Basically stopped lifting once highs were consistently in the single digits Fahrenheit (basically the last 2 months or so it seems). And only bought a pair of 110 lb dumbells and an adjustable bench to start. So I'm back at the rec center as of Monday. Since the last time I was there they added an additional bench and an additional Olympic lifting area. So I think I'll stay here a while.

I'm starting my old lifting patten. I'm 36 but I'm still hoping to hit 300 bench and 500 dead in my life. I used to have goals for squat and overhead press but squat basically makes it so I can't ski or bike the following weekend and OHP just feels kind of dangerous to try to really max on. I was hitting 165 on OHP for a bit which I was pretty proud of, but there's no way I would ever hit 200
Getting to 400 on squat would nuke my quads i would basically have to stop skiing and backpacking. Went 6 reps at 225 on bench. Started very slow on dead, also forgot my chalk and belt so I'm not posting that number publicly.

    • any workout is better than no workout. Even if you feel like garbage, get in there and do a couple of lifts.

    • need to do some intentional cardio. My weekend activities are cardio heavy, but they're not enough.

    • overall need more variety. Right now I'm thinking a 2 day push/pull split to focus on bench and dead, respectively, while doing accessory work to hit vanity muscles like bis, tris, lats, shoulders. Either need a third day in the gym, or need to go to one of their group fitness things like cross fit or spin class or yoga.

    • why are high schoolers in the gym? Don't they have a gym at the high school that my property taxes pay for? Need to be finished with my workout by around 3:45 before they get there. It's like a swarm of locusts.

    Push

    • Bench 5-3-1 pyramid. Max weight for reps on 1, twice. +warmup and cooldown

    • weighted dips 3x8 max weight

    • alternate incline/decline dumbell bench. 4x8-12

    • Tricep. Rope pulldown, kickback, or overhead extension. 3x12-15

    • overhead press 5x5

    • half medicine ball pistol squat. 3x15 each leg or side lunges

    Pull

    • Dead 5-3-1 pyramid. Max weight for reps on 1, twice. +warmup and cooldown

    • weighted pull ups. 3 sets, minimum 8 reps. Alternate grips each week, military, parallel, etc.

    • Bicep curls 4x8-12. Alternate seated/standing, inward/hammer/standard grip. Sometimes rope curls on machine.

    • Bent over row or good morning. 4x8. Alternate barbell, ez bar, s bar.

    • Trap bar shrug 3x12.

    • half medicine ball RDL 3x15 each leg

I have have a 4 week repeating progression of low, mid, high, super high for bench and dead. I just go for reps on the last one each time. So this week it was like:

    Bench 135x8 (warmup) 185x5 205x3 225x6 225x1 135x8 (cooldown).

    Next week it'll be

    Bench 135x8 (warmup) 195x5 215x3 235x<max reps> 235x<max reps> 135x8 (cooldown).

Although this is based on before I went garage gym so even though 225 used to be my low week, it will likely have to be my high week for now.

I've been looking at making one for long-ish term truck living. There is so much markup happening in prebuilt units from Goal Zero/Jackery/Lion IMO. You really only need 1) a LiFePO4 battery with a BMS (battery management system) to do things like low temp cutoff, 2) you need some way to charge it either from a vehicle alternator or a 120v wall outlet, and 3) you need an inverter for whatever specific items you're running. The nice thing is, once you have a charger and inverter, you can basically buy as many batteries as you want, whatever size you want. There's obviously a little more nuance to it than that, especially when it comes to inverters (you'll want a pure sine wave inverter for computers, and they have a peak efficiency you'll want to match to your power draw).

My plan is to actually skip the inverter altogether and run everything on the new 100 watt (eventually 240 watt) USB C spec. I will need to wire up a boost/buck converter to run my laptop though as it draws about 300 watts.

Rabbit ears can be bad but at least it's is relatively low consequence if you go off. Monarch Pass and the million dollar highway in the snow are the two scariest drives I've done, as far as paved road go.

The road from 80 to Craig stays open because of a mine up there (or so I've heard). Apparently there's a lot of money behind keeping that open, nicely maintained, and plowed. So if you can get to that exit before the snow hits that's usually a good goal. Unfortunately those mine trucks don't slow down for deer so it's not a good road for people with weak stomachs.

80 through western Wyoming can be really bad. I'd avoid that in the winter. Staying on 70 means there are a lot more towns, and therefore options for hotels, if you get stranded. We drove from Jackson Hole to Vail last spring and got stuck in green river, Wyoming for 2 days. We got the very last hotel room in (what seemed like) the entire town. Couldn't even get over to rock springs. I was driving through sustained snow at least 2-3 ft deep and snow drifts taller than the hood of my truck when we tried to "escape" down through flaming gorge, it was so bad it took miles of that to find a spot it felt safe to turn around. There are a lot more towns, more plow trucks, more emergency services, along 70...

In the words of Gandalf, "No, I would not take the road through Moria I80 in Western Wyoming in the winter unless I had no other choice."

You have already gotten ample good advice, but I saw a few minor details missing.

Put your chains on and take them off at least once in your driveway before going. They can be very difficult, especially if your tires are caked up with snow or mud. You'll want to know the process by heart or write down instructions, there will be significant portions of that journey without internet.

How new is your car? I have put cotton balls in my dog's ears for long trips before but my truck is old and loud.

You'll be on intestate almost this whole time so I don't think you have a lot to worry about. The stretch from SLC to GJT is a little desolate. This is the only portion of the trip you won't be on a major interstate the whole time. It's just a 2 lane from basically SLC until you hit 70, I think around Green River, UT (not to be confused with the relatively nearby, Green River, WY). Also 70 through eastern Utah is very sparse but there's enough traffic you won't be in any danger of being stranded.

The thing that irks me the most about this is all the references to security guards on the beach. I'm an advocate for public access to public lands, and it's an issue all over the place. The beaches in Hawaii are public, no one other than the federal government can stop you from using a beach, least of all some rent-a-cops on ATVs. So many public easements and right-of-ways are being shut down by private land owners that I now keep a pair of bolt cutters and barbed wire snippers (along with OnX which makes finding private and public land boundaries very easy to find) in my pack for hiking, fishing, and hunting. The Theodore Roosevelt Conservancy Partnership has some good information on this (although none of this is Hawaii specific): https://www.trcp.org/unlocking-public-lands/

Yeah it's wild they're at all surprised by this. Housing market is terrible, the health insurance industry is basically a racketeering scam that doesn't even actually cover all your costs, human overpopulation, a dying/dead ecosystem, the replacement of a middle class with a class of penniless peasants begging for scraps from capitalist feudal lord billionaires...

My wife and I would start popping out kids (9 months from) tomorrow if the fed paid off my mortgage and guaranteed lifetime low cost health insurance. Seems like the declining birth rate isn't that big of a deal to them though, so we'll stay child free.

If you have an old prescription just try uploading it when you order. I've submitted online orders at 1800 contacts before and when it asked me to upload a prescription I just uploaded my expired one and it accepted it. No one is actually checking and apparently their AI (at the time) couldn't read the handwritten, poorly scanned prescription I uploaded. If it doesn't work there just try some other websites. The one thing I definitely wouldn't do is actually trying to photoshop or tamper with the prescription itself.

The other thing I've done before is order a 2+ year supply the day before the prescription expires.

Yeah. Honestly the worst that's really gonna happen when you're brand new (like first day) is burning out the clutch. Which is pain but is very fixable. If you have a choice, I would suggest learning on an older truck. The longer clutch throw and better low end torque tend to be more forgiving. I used to drive a 2001 GMC 2500 for work. Jeep Wranglers also seem to be one of the last vehicles commonly sold with sticks.

Pulling Google Analytics data into BigQuery. That one's a pain because all of the parameters are in arrays so I'm learning how to use window functions to make it usable.

Also working in Python with the HubSpot API. Why I can't just get this stuff into json is beyond me. It's all paginated so I guess I need to set up a for loop to pull the next page's URL and somehow get it all into one json.

This is all because I'm tired of manually exporting HubSpot, Google Analytics, Google Ads, Google Search Console into tables to do anything useful with the data. Trying to automate bringing all this into one DB to build my reports & dashboards. If anyone has any shortcuts I'd love to know. GA4 seems to have a good bit of YouTube tutorials in BigQuery but the HubSpot API doesn't seem to have any in-depth tutorials. I'm fairly new to both BigQuery SQL and Python.

These companies should also be responsible for their own cleanup. If they were able to budget to put up hundreds of miles of wood posts and barbed wire across BLM and USFS lands, they should be able to budget to remove the dilapidated remains instead of leaving tangles of rusted barbed wire in bushes and trees for the public, and our dogs and children, to stumble into. Just another example (much like mines) of big companies who are able to raise enormous sums to build these things but can't seem to find a dime to cleanup their mess when they're done and leave it behind for taxpayers to cleanup. We need personal, criminal liability for these actions (jail time) instead of just going after defunct LLCs with empty, closed bank accounts.

Back when open source left programming, a company called Local Motors made a car, the Rally Fighter. I might be misremembering... but I recall that it was "open source" in a weird way, the people who bought into it could vote on what parts it would be made of, how it would look, etc. I thought it was the beginning of a cottage industry of all kinds of varied cars and even more kit cars. Instead, since then, the car market has become a copycat game of all the worst trends. Bloated, expensive behemoths with giant touch screens instead of dashboards. I really would love to see a back to the basics auto maker come out with inexpensive, minimalist cars and trucks that are lightweight and easy to work on. Or maybe the same as above with kit cars. Just four wheels plus whatever the IHSA requires. Modifying my RC cars makes me think I could almost figure out how to build one!
