Chiming in to say that as an angler and an elk/deer/turkey hunter I really hate the method of take in big cat hunting. I wish CPW would change it but I don't know what the alternatives are. That said, they do a good job of managing our wildlife and I think they appropriate tags well. I'm left wing but I voted against the ban.

You know what I'd like to see passed? People should automatically get a tag for the GMU that you fucking live in. I'm tired of driving miles to hunt when I could just go out my backyard (my house literally borders BLM land), while seeing out of state plates at every campsite within 20 miles of home. Why are they giving draw tags in great units to people from Ohio while forcing locals to go OTC at units hours from home? $$$$$

I've lived between 8,000 and 10,200 since 2011. I just add 15 degrees to whatever the instructions say and kind of watch it. Some things like baking fish and meat seem like they need to be way WAY hotter and still take longer than whatever instructions online say. Like I bake salmon at 450. Other stuff like packaged frozen stuff from the grocery store I just add 15 degrees and a minute or two to whatever it says on the back of the package.

I don't really bake cookies and cakes and stuff.

My neighbor works on forest fires. He bought starlink and I guess the firefighters love it but it has to be close to base to use. Most of these guys (and SAR) work on HAM radios I assume. But the combo of this and starlink could really impact communications. Sending photos or videos of specific things instead of describing it over radio or sending exact GPS coordinates or even just the opportunity for a lot more lines of communication instead of just a couple of open radio channels.

It's not like heavy trucks are a new thing. I wonder why these tires are any different from the rear tires on 3/4 ton and heavier trucks that are rated for 30,000 lb and higher trailering loads. These same trucks also have GVRWs in the 10,000-15,000 lb range. I'm sure plenty of these trucks drive a significant portion of their miles with heavy loads, especially the ones for commercial use.

I guess my question is, why hasn't this been an issue for all the rest of the very heavy passenger trucks that have been on the road for decades, and yet it is an issue for the cyber truck?

Nothing is set in stone, but I was mostly looking at this area because we have such a short time there I don't want to spend too much of it on travel time. We also have to consider the huge amount of luggage we'll have since we need so much of our dress clothes for the event, usually we travel with just backpacks but we'll each have a large suitcase and might even need a third for all her dresses and my suits.

I will keep it in mind though! This is not our last trip to England, we are hoping to visit the British Isles for an extended time, 2-3 weeks, in a couple years.

Looking for ideas - we're two adults in our mid-30's, no kids. We'll be leaving a wedding on a Monday in Ipswich but our flight home from London isn't until Friday. We'll be spending a week in London beforehand so we'd like to explore the countryside.

The only thing we've (sort of) landed on is seeing/staying in the Cotswolds, and touring some castles (holy crap there's a ton to chose from). We're not big drinkers/partiers but I'd like to be able to go hang out in a real English pub and stay at a Lord-of-the-Rings kind of inn (I already found the inn that the Prancing Pony is based on - thought not sure if we want to stay there).

Other random thoughts. Unfortunately our schedule doesn't seem like it'll line up with any Premier League games. Not planning on renting a car but can if we absolutely must. Would kind of like to stay in one spot since it's only 3 nights.

I think you're right - 80% seems about the correct level of discount that it would take to get me to use one of their OBDII sensors or something.

This is a bit silly but I'm going to link to my own comment that I just made a few minutes ago. I work in data collection and monetization, and it makes me hyper aware of 1) how much is collected and 2) how poorly it is protected. I may need to start carrying a small Faraday cage to put over the antenna of any rental cars I get, or find the proper fuses to pull to disable the modem, cameras, and microphones.

My insurance company keeps emailing me offers for free smart devices that I can plug into my car and even the wall outlets at my house for monitoring (or something). Yeah, not a fucking chance.

The more crap they add to new vehicles the more money I'm willing to invest in keeping my three 15 year old beaters running for as long as possible. Seems like another regulation to increase cost, homogeneity in design, and (should) only impact people who regularly drive in populated areas with frequent pedestrian interactions.

I got Sandy, UT! Which seems right. Much larger than any town I've ever lived in, by about a factor of 10. I just want snow in the winter and mild summer and some great skiing within a 30 minute drive, or so. If I could limit options to a minimum of 100" of snow per year, and an average daily high less than 80° in the hottest month of the year, I could pay less attention to metagaming to make sure I get a place with favorable climate and, instead, focus on other things i care about like walkability, housing costs, and public transit.

I started running again. I used to run track, made it to state twice for 300m hurdles and 4x4 and my regular 8 mile run took less than an hour. But have only really been powerlifting/skiing/mtb/hiking in my 20s and early 30s. Ran 2.5 miles at an 11 minute pace, 8,000 ft altitude in a relatively flat area. Very disheartening.

I found a chart online that said 22:53 5k is considered "intermediate" for a 35 year old so I'm gonna run two 5ks a week until I hit that. Still trying to lift 2-3 days a week and ski/mtb on weekends. New goals are: 500lb dead, 300lb bench, 23:00 5k. Currently at: 455, 265, 30:00+(?).

GDP would be cool, but I also wonder what other socioeconomic factors could be considered. Per capita income, or median income, or Gini index as it relates to local cost of living. I'd imagine the higher proportion of a country that has the free time to practice athletics instead of working will fare better at the Olympics. i'd guess a high Per capita income and a high Gini index would equate to high levels of athletes competing.

Makes you wonder how many people living under oppressive regimes, or in places without the free time and equipment to practice these athletics have we missed over the years. Like, maybe the best pole vaulter the world has ever seen was born and died as an unknown in a rundown factory town, having never even tried vaulting, without access to a track nor a thought of doing athletics "for fun". Although China would maybe be an outlier? Does it seem to anyone else like they've got some GMO (except H for Humans instead of Organisms) stuff going on with their athlete program?

Oh I 100% agree. Any product adjacent search results in product prices and checkout buttons directly on the SERP. You have to wade through so much auto generated crap to find someone who actually bought the product, used it at their home, and wrote an actual, real review. YouTube is particularly bad for this, certain searches yield auto generated videos of a clearly scraped Amazon listing with an text-to-voice speaker reading the body text from the website over a slideshow of the photos from the listing.

I would love a ublock, but the blacklist is all the SEO blog spam sites and YT channels. I'd so much rather browse a poorly designed geocities site if the creator actually bought, used, photographed, and published their real thoughts on things. I know they're out there, but you have to sift through mountains of search-optimized trash to find them.

Two solutions that don't work are "white listing" neighborhoods and setting nights per year caps.

White listing just picks winners and losers in neighborhoods and reminds me of red lining. If you are going to have a cap, just say that and set a hard cap on the maximum number of STR business licenses that will be given out, and offer a waiting list or lottery for those. If you want to "pick winners" then offer extra "tickets" in the STR business license lottery based on the number of years the business owner has lived in that town or zip code. (In other words, oh the business is owned by a local who has lived here 10 years? You get 11 tickets in the lottery for the next available STR license instead of 1.)

Setting yearly caps on nights also doesn't work. It just encourages them to rent only during peak season and leave it vacant the rest of the time. It's a lose-lose, you don't get that unit back on the market for people to live in, but you also take away from potential off season economic activity from visitors, which is really the sole benefit of airbnbs.

I do think we need to heavily tax these places. Honestly I would be OK with doubling the transfer tax and adding a 10x multiplier to the mill levy to any houses that are not owner occupied at least 75% of the year. That includes long term rentals. A few nearby towns have hired companies to do sting operations for unlicensed STRs. You also need a local, 24 hour person to be available to guests, much like a hotel has a front desk. In fact I think a 24 hour front desk is a great way to separate hotels regulations from airbnb regulations.

Excited to finally have a weekend at home in the air conditioning for what seems like the first time this summer.

This weekend. Will probably take our dog for a hike in the early mornings this weekend while it's still cool out, she's 9 now though and can't go as far as she used to. I'll subject myself to the heat on a mountain bike in the afternoons. Might buy a lift ticket at the local hill on Sunday so I can skip the climbing part. Also have a bunch of homework to get done.

Yeah it was an outstanding move. The patience to wait until he thought Newgarden wouldn't be have time to draft before the end anyway and then making the perfect move and still getting beat. I laughed! I cried! I felt like I was watching a movie.

I haven't seriously watched F1 in years so I am not a good source of information. I like watching the highlights but all the news just makes it seem so bad. Hearing about the stuff they did in Las Vegas reminded me of the IOC officials demanding roads closed and police convoys to get from the airport to the hotel. Just disgustingly pretentious and inconsiderate of locals when your event comes to town.

On another note, this year's Indy 500 was one of the most exciting races I can remember watching. All the strategy and passing on the last half of the race made up for some very early wrecks and caution laps. And Pato's post race interview was heart wrenching. It earned the title "greatest spectacle in racing" this year.

I think people sleep on the American racing disciplines but Nascar and Indycar both tend to be more exciting (depending on the track) then F1. I wish they'd allow Nascar to go just a tad faster, or to make more adjustments for the road courses. The Nascar road course races kind of feel like watching minivans race, but the super speedway races are so fun to watch.

I always look forward to this weekend because you have Indy 500, Coca Cola 600, and Monaco all on one day. But honestly Monaco has typically been there for background noise on the TV while we do other things and occasionally look up and say "woah those are some big yachts".
