Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix 2023 - Results
Kinda thought it was boring race. A few entertaining passes, but that was it.
On to Qatar in two weeks (Oct. 6-8)!

Absolutely shocking performance from Checo. That Magnuson "overtake" attempt should be DQ worthy of you ask me.
I enjoyed the race, but I'll always enjoy Suzuka. I think the track layout is absolutely marvelous, love just watching onboards, particularly in sector 1.

I am curious about his whole penalty lap thing. I had no clue that a car and driver could go back in like that just to serve a penalty. I didn't know that that was possible at all, for any reason. I assume the stewards were fine with it? Very strange.
Teams were allowed to repair cars and send them out as long as the driver didn't get out of the car afaik. I say were because I assume this will be looked into after this ridiculous situation.
I know the pressure thing for Perez was talked about when he was in his Q3 drought, but what pressure is he under now? RB secured the constructor's title, and the driver's championship is about to be Max's by next race. If anything his drive should be more relaxed for the rest of the season.
I understand every human have their own stressors, but F1 demands perfection out of you - for better or worse.
He’s not only being outperformed massively by his team mate, he’s also being outperformed by a lot of the rest of the field. He’s second in the drivers standings right now mainly by virtue of having a good car at the start of the season when the rest of the field (mostly McLaren and Ferrari) were still sorting them selves out - he should be very worried about someone more capable taking his seat, being a safe pair of hands is probably not enough to hold onto a RB seat.
Hmm, I was under the presumption that the stress was affecting his performance rather than the (lack of) performance causing him stress, as he has won 2 races this year and gotten a few podiums.
I think it's all about expectations - take De Vries as an example - he wasn't terrible by any stretch, not a Lawson/Schumacher/Latifi crashing every other race, but he wasn't doing as well as his teammate even though the expectation was that he should be much better due to age and experience, so they dropped him fast. I think Perez is in a similar situation, he's doing 'fine' but RB are the best team right now and can have any driver they want, is 'fine' enough for them? Not saying I agree or anything but at the end of the day, the sport can be particularly cut throat when it comes to drivers, especially at the extremes.
Williams needs to drop Sargeant. Vowles has admitted the lack of parts is costing Williams valuable resources and time, and the team needs someone that can provide insightful car feedback and a minimal amount of incidents in this "recovery" phase.
Maybe someone as consistent as Drugovich would be a good fit? Lawson isn't too far off too, but I'm willing to bet Red Bull isn't going to ignore Liam, given Marko said that Williams "doesn't want a driver for just one year", which may imply they have plans for him in the future.

I thought this was a great race. A little shithousery. A little chaos. Also great to see McLaren so steady, fighting a bit but still working as a team.
