What did you do this week (and weekend)?
As part of a weekly series, these topics are a place for users to casually discuss the things they did — or didn't do — during their week. Did you accomplish any goals? Suffer a failure? Do nothing at all? Tell us about it!
I went to the "Lange Nacht Der Museen" in Berlin. For a flat fee (12 Euro) you could visit museums all around the city until 2am. They even had speed tours for people who wanted to go to as many museums as possible and free shuttles between areas. We had a tour around Charlottenburg palace, given by the guy who runs the place, and a tour of the gaslights in the area - Berlin has 21000 gaslights - , and had a look at tons of plaster casts around midnight with nobody around. That was was creepy as heck.
this sounds absolutely fantastic!
I just knocked out another section of the Pacific Crest Trail! I attempted to do the entire hike in one go back in 2019, but got off after 900-ish miles for various reasons (snow, boredom, finances).
I want so badly to say I've completed it, and have committed to finish it section by section. Just got back on and knocked out another 80 miles! Here I come Canada! Slowly & when I can get PTO!
Congratulations!
Our condo has been undergoing some repairs for the past few weeks due to a flood. We had to have all of the flooring and baseboards replaced which meant moving all of our stuff out of the unit and staying in a nearby hotel while the work was being done. The flooring was pretty ugly and we regretted not being able to replace it when we first moved in so we were pretty excited to finally be able to change it.
We took the opportunity to paint our walls and re-arrange all of our art and photos last weekend while the place was empty. It was a pretty big job to complete over a weekend, but we managed. It was totally worth all of the effort though, it feels like we have a brand new place.
The final inspection was completed yesterday so we'll be checking out of the hotel tomorrow. We'll probably spend the weekend moving furniture around and settling back in to our home.
I have been working from a relative's house for the past two weeks because my husband caught covid and our apartment is small. In that time I started my graduate program so I have been busy. I'm taking the relatives out to dinner before returning home.
The week was pretty typical; producing tech education materials for executives. Whee!
Just spent the day teaching my son how to shoot on a 35mm Minolta SLR from 1973. Will be getting together with friends later tonight, and then the rest of the weekend is up for grabs.
Having grown up around hunters, I did a double take before I understood you. You sound like a good parent.
I was charged with scheduling things for customers, something very, very, very different from the stuff I normally do. It was extremely stressful. But now that it's done I am so relieved.
I also finally got the upgrades on my 3D printer done that I had planned on doing all the way back in 2022. Technically I did it my last "weekend", but since my weekends are Sundays and Mondays these threads don't line up with when I'm actually doing things. I installed some addressable RGB lighting (which I am disappointed to find out that Klipper apparantly doesn't know how to do anything but make them all the same colors and intensities) and installed a webcam so I can remotely monitor it's progress.
One of these days I will make it so that it can be accessed over the internet, but I've got a few blockers. I've got an ISP-provided router that doesn't let me properly bridge it, which has a firewall I can't configure properly, so I will need to purchase a new cable modem. But before I can do that, I need to do some upgrades to the software on the printer itself as it has some vulnerabilities that need to be addressed. Unfortunately this is a big ordeal as I will need to flash both the raspberry pi and controller board manually, and those are both in a sealed compartment. Though I suppose it would be a good excuse to also replace the power plugs on the rpi to something with actual insulation so it doesn't catch on fire. ^_^;
Since I did the upgrade I've had it printing almost nonstop. I ran out of ABS and am rolling through my old PLA stock before I buy anything else. That includes printing a new spool for the one roll of spool-less filament I bought, which later annoyed me because I found out that the manufacturer I bought it from only does PLA, which I don't particularly care for. It's brittle and melts in the car!
Right now I'm printing board games mostly. I just finished printing Penduelem but made the mistake of printing it in Silk PLA, which made it nice and shiny but the expansion made inserting the magnets a real pain. Right now I'm in the middle of printing the board for Hextraction, and boy, is this a long print. I found I had the wrong size magnets for Pendualum, and I am thinking I'll probably have the wrong size ball bearings for Hextraction too. Luckally both of them are cheap.
