What did you do this week (and weekend)?

As part of a weekly series, these topics are a place for users to casually discuss the things they did — or didn't do — during their week. Did you accomplish any goals? Suffer a failure? Do nothing at all? Tell us about it!

I'm playing percussion instead of my usual saxophone with a local community band and bought a compact xylophone so that I can practice mallet parts at home. It's actually much nicer than I expected, but also much bigger than I planned for (my fault for not double checking dimensions). This week was all about figuring out how to fit it into my small apartment in a nice looking and functional way. It was one of those chain reaction situations where you move something to make room, but then have to move even more stuff to make room for the stuff you just moved. It was a nice excuse to declutter and deep clean. It took a few days but I finally have it situated in my reading corner in a way that is functional and looks at least okay. Now I'm on the hunt for a rug to help tie the space together

Enlisted the help of some wonderful neighbours who've volunteered to help my puppy stop being fearful of people, they've been coming over and existing in my back garden while he yells at them. We've done three short sessions with different people so far and they've all ended on a positive note. It's a nice way to get to know my neighbours better too.

Hoovered the house from top to bottom, horrible work in this sudden heatwave but everything does feel a lot nicer.

At work we have taken the first planning phase of our new agile development approach. We have been running a very loose scrum/kanban thing before which did get many things done, but also very ad hoc with little long term plan. Now we have tried to make broad goals for the next 12 weeks which will be divided in 2 week sprints. Still very unsure how much of our current plan will hold, but it feels nice to have a decent plan with some structure and preperation compared to the total adhoc way of doing things before.

I went through the exact same transition at my company about a month ago. We just did a complete refresh though as we weren't doing a good job of closing sprints, reviewing outputs, and kicking off new ones. A big improvement we made was deeper review of the acceptance criteria.

Anyway, I hope it goes well!!!

My week has mostly been a frantic chase of one event to another. From school to work to controling sound for my local church it has been busy. But I have got some work on projects done like: installing a radio into my car, learning about flying fpv drones, and setting up an ipod classic (clickwheel) for previously stated new car radio. Anyway I am now on my way to join my dad and a friend on their elk hunting trip.

I got a new graphics card to play Starfield, an AMD RX6800XT! Took two days to get it right, my brother helping, and he found a discussion about disabling CSM in bios to fix it. It worked!

But I totaled my car in the process after it was in the shop for a month waiting on parts because of a Kia Boyz copycat. I had gone to Micro Center to buy the card, then back to buy a power supply, then the card didn't work. I exchanged it for a different one thinking the card was bad. It was standing up in my front passenger seat. I was turning on an onramp, it fell, I stupidly went to catch the $500 device falling over and... hopped a curb right into a light pole. It barely hit my car, the front left panel and right-side bumper were damaged, and the radiator was leaking. I reached out to my friends to get the order of operations for this, called California Highway Patrol, who hooked me up with AAA, who got my car to a body shop and me home, which he didn't need to. I gave the driver an extra $40 as I had to pay cash for the fee (Nothing else worked), and he saved my ass and made me feel better.

The car was totaled on Tuesday because of the suspension damage, so I'm waiting for the check to get a new one. The officer and driver both heard from dispatch that I'd heard a pole and didn't expect to see a car with some panel/suspension damage down the road from a felled pole, and were pleasantly surprised. A fun side story, as well: I got lost and went to the dispensary, then on my way home. I hadn't had anything to eat or drink beyond an energy drink, so I figured I would walk to the nearby 7-11 to get a big bottle of water. I grabbed the expensive stuff, my graphics card and edibles, and as soon as I step away, CHP rolls up. Weed is legal here, but I was still super nervous obviously having cannabis when the law showed up, but I put the bag and box in the trunk so I didn't have to worry about it.

I figured I'd tell the story for a bit of entertainment and help me process, but I've had an interesting week. Starfield wasn't worth the $6000 loss on the car (difference between what I paid and what insurance gave), but would've been worth the two day aggrivation of the graphics update.
