Well… I close on my house in 3.5 hours!!! I’ve been dreaming of home ownership for 10 years and I never thought I’d get here! I was extremely fortunate to fall into an excellent job that allowed me to climb up and I’m finally in a place where I can own a home. The house is functional, updated, cute, has an excellent garage (I’m an auto mechanic in my spare time), and is in a great neighborhood. It really ended up being perfect after I had two other offers rejected.

So yeah, I’ll be spending all this weekend moving. I elected to end my rental lease on August 31 so that I don’t pay any housing in September (first loan payment on the house is Oct). So I’m spending today moving over my valuables, electronics, essentials, bed, and the cats, and then movers are getting the rest tomorrow. It will take me a while to unpack and organize, of course, but the space should be livable tonight or tomorrow. I took next week off from work so that I can take my time settling in and getting used to home ownership.

So I’m sure I’ll be pretty exhausted come Monday, but this might be the best weekend of my life. I’m still trying to not count my chickens since I technically haven’t closed yet even though it’s today and I’ve already signed everything and paid down payment + closing. I’m just paranoid I did something wrong or something because it’s so unbelievable that I’m going to own a home. I think part of it is how hard everyone says it is, but the process ended up being pretty easy to me at least.

Yeah, it’s impossible to know what life holds in 5 or 10 years, but I’m hoping that I’m happy with the place and have no desire to move. I’d love to have this paid off before I retire and be able to perhaps retire early. I’m in my early 30’s and the thought of working for another 30 years is terrifying, so I’m hoping I can make it 20 instead.

That said, who knows if I find an SO and need a bigger place, if I need to relocate, or if other life stuff happens. For now I’ll just enjoy what I have and not worry too much about the far future until later.

The first order of business is tearing down my Impreza to fix all the issues with it now that I have a place where I can just have a car on jack stands for weeks and pick away at it.

I've been preparing for my final round of interviews with a big tech company for a mid-level software engineering role. It's a pretty daunting gauntlet of interviews, which is the norm now for software engineers. I've been trying to work around my work schedule and practice/study when I can. My interview is on Monday and I took that day off so I don't have to deal with work. Currently just planning on studying hard over the weekend and then relaxing hard once I'm done haha.

They're all back to back, with a 15 minute buffer between them. Just need to eat properly before my interviews begin in the morning and then relax.

This weekend: need to start using my water flosser again, been neglecting it and my dental health in general. I'm currently on braces, and that has made flossing next to impossible. I feel bad about neglecting it, but I've been going through shit mental health.

Also, planning to research and apply for more tech jobs in cybersecurity or adjacent; I'm currently working a subsistence job, but the job market here in the US Midwest is so bad for recent new grads in tech like myself (though it isn't my first degree). I got LinkedIn Premium too in the hopes of reaching out to recruiters and upper management/C-suite folks of my target companies directly, but haven't sent out a single InMail.

Finally, I'm hoping to go on a long walk with a friend at this long trail west of the city on Sunday, so that should be fun. That kinda is my plan for the weekend.

Good luck on the job search. I was hoping tech would rebound after all the layoffs and cuts over the last few years, but afaik it’s still a bit rough out there :( Have fun on your walk!

My wife and I just had a trip in Maine last weekend visiting some of her extended family. I had never met these people and they all seemed pretty decent. I ran a gauntlet of talking to so many people amd I hope I don't forget everyone's name but it was a pleasant time with family.

We started off the trip by camping at Lake Georgre which was lovely. I realized I enjoy lake swimming a lot more than the ocean. On the way back home we capped off the trip with some drinks and lobster rolls at Allagash brewery which had a great stout. My body is feeling the long drive - I suppose just a side effect of aging. But it was nice listening to an audio book and having a weekend free of chores and work with my partner.

There is so much cool stuff happening this weekend and I have lots of trouble deciding

    1. If i want to do anything due to me wanting to isolate a lot. i just want to stay home and just bury myself with lots of plushies and never ever leave the bed. But then again I know i will feel bad due to my fear of missing out...

    2. If I want to visit the photography event this saturday or if i wanne go to a Tech meetup where I've been trying to socialize more or if I want to go to a pride that is near me.

All of these are cool options the only thing is I can't attend all 3 of them at the same time.

But today (Friday) I had school and as always I was very nervous before going but in the end it was really relaxing and I just worked on my personal projects (yay). Also school ended way earlier than expected which is also a huge plus.

Sorri for like this unorganized message. I hope you all have a very good [insert your time of day]. And I hope you are all doing well... yayyy :3

Well, no matter which plans you decide on, I hope you have a pleasant weekend! You’re reminding me that I need to dip my toes into photography a bit more than I’ve been doing lately. I got a new camera last year and while I’ve had a few outings, I haven’t been the shutterbug that I was leading up to buying that, so maybe I’ll have to look out for photography events in my area, as well!

I really want to get back into photography. It feels kinda weird doing photography projects with my smartphone after being trained on an DSLR, but with how good the cameras are on phones it doesn't make much sense for me to get a hobbyist camera.

What sort of photography event is it?

Also yay photography. I really like using older types of cameras (Analog mostly but also some digital). And the pictures doesn't always have to be the best quality. To be completly honest the phone is more than enough. If you have android I there are some apps where you can control the camera much more (for example set the shutter time or set the apperture and so on.) So you can really do specific stuff also with the camera. But even just taking pictures with the normal settings is also fine. The most important part is to have fun I suppose •⩊•

I completed my second full week teaching 2nd Grade.

Last week I felt like I was flying by the seat of my pants. I have 15 years of teaching experience, but in an entire other world it seems. 2nd Grade is wildly different from prek, who'd have thought?

This week I had the chance to observe other teachers and my goodness it was SO VALIDATING. They struggled where I did and I already performed in many of the same ways they did. I can improve, and learn - but it seems I do have the foundation I thought I did. That means a lot.

I'm looking forward to all I'll learn this school year. I want to continue to do better.

No spoilers Aw man, sorry to hear that. Private equity truly ruins everything it touches. Hope you can take some time to relax and then start prepping for interviews. I hope you find another job soon!

I turned 47 last Sunday. My SO keeps calling me Dennis or old woman, because absolutely no one asked about my age 10 years ago.

But anyway on my commute this week I opted for the audiobook of F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Curious Case of Benjamin Button which was a bit disappointing, but it also included "Babylon Revisited" (which also did not impress) and "Three Hours Between Planes" which really was meh until the end... I believe there is one more story, but the latter kind of poked me hard in the feels.

So that was my last week. I would just state that one should check out the "Three Hours" story... brutally humerous imo. :)

It was a short week for me at work, since I took Monday off. Which was because I traveled back from home from a work trip the previous Saturday. Spent most of last Saturday traveling (left for the airport at 3am, got back from 11hrs later) and then sleeping. So I wanted my "full" weekend.

Work aside, spent most evenings doing a little tidying up and such. My parents are in town and staying with me with this week; they arrived yesterday. Place ain't spotless, but it also wasn't super messy to begin with, either. Mostly just needed to get the guest room ready.

Due to that work travel the week prior, I have so much comp time. So I'm burning all of it this week, plus a few hours of PTO. Which means I'm off all week! This is the most time off I've had at once in since I started this job nearly a year ago. My parents flew over to stay with me all week so it's a vacation for them and a staycation for me!
